radeon 9600 256mb is the largest one ive found that i compatible :S

i just bought the powermac from a work colleague for £120 with a 19" apple lcd (not a bad price) 2gb ram, 1.42 x2 PPC and im going to put 2x WD Caviar Blue 500gb HDD's in (using it as a home media center and torrent box)

can anyone help me with regards to the gfx situation?

Thanks, Kris.

Pretty nice deal you got on there.

I believe the fastest card you can plunk in is a GeForce 7900 GTX AGP (rare, and you'd probably have to flash one). Any faster would probably be pointless anyway, since it would outstrip your hardware. Actually it already does... you might be better suited with a Radeon X800 or even a Radeon 9800 Pro.

7800

7900's won't work with a Mac as there are no drivers to support them; they use a significantly different built-in BIOS. Flashing them won't do any good as the firmware can only support a BIOS of 5.70.xx.xx.xx. All 7900's use a BIOS of 5.71.xx or higher.

Best is a 7800GS AGP flashed with a Mac ROM.. Apple has their own 7800GT but it's PCI Express only and only fits in the last G5 revisions, the late 2005s. You need to get a 'reference' 7800 which means they didn't fsck with the original design. More details here:

yeah it is a good deal (especially for the screen haha) mac dont make that screen anymore lol

i just want it to be able to support my tv/projector for streaming videos and as a torrent box i might just try and get a radeon 9600 pro 256 as it works with the mac :)
