I would say the $ 50,- spent on getting the 9600 in there is well spent!

I agree, the Halo test dont hold much water since it is such a poor port(microsoft what do you expect) look at the UT2003 figures. In every test as soon as you start cranking up the resolution fx5200 looses frames faster then the 9600.

Proves the point also that having the FX 5200 as "best" grfx card in an iMac is very poor....

It would be such a gr8 idea if Apple would have at least one iMac model equipped with the Radeon 9600 or maybe even the 9800.
Come on Apple: iMac G5 Single 2.0 GHz G5 (90 nm) with a good grfx card can't be too hard to manufacture...?

Apple doesnt get it! Bean counters are telling Ives what has to go into models and the consumer is left out. Apple wonders why sales suck on the consumer line. 1 fast cpu and 1 decent video option could cure Imacs sales problems very quickly. Its interesting to note those frames in UT2003. my 1.4 G4 & geforce 3 avg's 32 at 800x600 on high qulity. those duals are pushing and this game isnt even optimized for G5.

Yeah, kinda seems Apple thinks that consumer Macs are not supposed to be used for gaming

    Time to wake up Apple:
    Consumers want to play games!
So give them (us) options. Especially because the iMacs are not upgradeable you'll have to able to offer one iMac at the very least which is able to play a modern game. It really is disgracefull that you pay over $ 2000 for a nice new Mac, only to find out that UT 2004 is virtually unplayable.

    I really don't get it.

it took you guys that long to figure out that the 5200 is the biggest P.O.S.

seriously this was known a long time ago just checkout any benchmarking for the p.c. market. the 5200 lags hardcore in every category.

It didnt really take us that long but we now have some benches on a mac to prove it. Same old story for us Mac users slow hardware & best software(excluding dual G5s) I didnt post any Imacs frames here so as to not embarrass those Bean counters at APPLE COMPUTER. such a joke go look at the Apple games page and they act like Imac and its FX5200 is a gamers machine.

haha monarch, that's the 5200 summed up in one word pretty much.

Yeah, the 5200 is basically your 9000/9100 (non pro) equivalent...not worth the money getting because just 50 dollars more (than the 50-70 spent on the 5200); you can get the 5600 (ultra or nonultra) or the 9600 (pro/non pro) and they will be longer lasting options. My 8500 has lasted me for 2 years now. Had i gotten the 7500 instead of my 8500, it would have forced a much earlier upgrade--i might have gotten disgusted and upgraded already! But i find, unless i'm playing Doom 3; none of the current games that i play stress it too much (WcIII and CS are just fine).

The R9600, reall starts to shine above other mid range cards when AA and AF are turned on.
