Well, I broke down and ordered a 1.4 GHz CPU upgrade from OWC (w00t), and I'm running some "before" benchmarks so I can measure my performance increase.

On the games side, I don't have much - just Unreal Tournament (the vintage '99 one), Return to Castle Wolfenstein (demo), and Call of Duty (for my bro's 1.33 GHz PB, but it will run, VERY SLOWLY on my machine).

I'm in the process of scouring the 'net to find out how to get FPS measurements for these games. Any help?

www.xlr8yourmac.com has much info about benchmarking games. You could also try ut2003 demo and cinebench, also timing of ripping cds/dvds, iMovie exports ++..

I downloaded cinebench last night, and I did some ripping/copying already, mostly iLife stuff, since I use that a lot.

For some dumb reason xlr8yourmac is on the restricted list of sites here at work (even though a site called angelsofporn is not, and no, I had nothing to do with that, it was my boss  What's up with our IT guys?), so I'll have to go look later at home.

EDIT: taking a late lunch with a co-worker's laptop (coffeshop with wireless internet) and I see what I'm looking for, except for CoD.

Console is brought up with ` or ~ key. Right below the esc key on the U.S. keyboards. "stat fps" for UT-based games. Quake 3 based games vary. Try searching for the thread. We've had the console commands come up a few times.
