I have yet to try l'escargot.

Crawfish, gator, turtle, and frog I love, but slugs with shells... not yet.

escargot is quite tasty :-D But one thing to remember not all snails are edible.. In fact the most common is the large sea snails.. the least being small land snails.. though they are eaten often in portugal...

The only time I had snails, they were smothered in so much garlic & melted butter that's all they tasted of.

Sooner or later, somebody's going to say...

    'They taste just like chicken.'

Which seems to be the universal response to eating unfamiliar whitish meats...

I knew that was going to happen, but it couldn't be further from the truth. The texture is like steamed fresh mussels but the taste is more calamari like. Ummm, escargot, butter, garlic, lemon and a little ground pepper.

    They taste just like chicken.

    jk  ;)

I have had a similar experience with over-seasoned escargot. Still tasted nice, but not very authentic.

Yummy, or they would be if a) fresh, not frozen, and b) not smothered with salt by undiscerning people who think they need to disguise the taste.

Garlic and butter too - I agree, Blue Velvet.
