    MacBook Air, 1.8ghz, SSD drive.

    Geekbench 32bit, score 2132
No apps, running, although NOT after a fresh reboot.

Detail attached. (It's a RTF file inside the zip file).

In comparison, MacBook Pro 17" Santa Rosa 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo, 4gb ram. is 3172.
Good news though, MBA scored higher than PowerMac Dual-Core G5 2.5ghz.

That's certainly disappointing but also something to expect. I believe the Macbook Air appeals to people that don't need much power when on the road. I prefer to have a Macbook or Macbook Pro than a computer that its main advantage is its thiness...

Speaking as someone who works 'on the road' everyday with a Powerbook G4 1.5 c2004ad, which scores 800 on geekbench and is perfectly adequate for me, I'll be glad to halve the weight and run at geekbench 2000. No disappointment here. I often wonder who these people are that need such power 'on the road'.

I'm well into 2400's here without the SSD?

I've seen a lot of good comparisons between the SSD and MDD models. But does anyone know how the SSD itself compares with the better reviewed and tested models from Mtron and MemoRight? Particularly with regard to read/write speeds. I realize that this isn't a practical comparison because they will probably not ever be run on the same systems, but it might shed some more information on just how well (or badly) this particular SSD performs...

First of all, the only dual core 2.5 GHz G5 is G5 Quad.

Secondly, gotta love those synthetic benchmarks...

    First off what's MDD?

Also the SSD on the Air is pathetic since the PATA bus is slow, therefore the SSD on the Air is a POS compared to Mtron, MemoRight, Samsung SSDs.

    Oops. MDD=HDD.

Ah, I totally forgot about the PATA/SATA difference...

Why else do you think Apple so painstakingly transitioned over to Intel among many other reasons?

Right, they must have meant dual processor 2.5.

Also agreed about the synthetic benchmarks. I don't believe an air is really faster than a dual 2.5 G5. Even if the processor is faster, which I doubt, it still doesn't have a 3.5" HD or a dedicated graphics card. Not to mention that the air maxes out at 2 GB RAM and the G5 can take up to 8 GB.
