Hey I'm hoping I'm not the only one with this problem, getting stood up? I'm in Seattle doing an internship and went down to Olympia WA for a day and arranged to see a friend. I had been on the bus all day and then went 45 min out of my way to go to school and meet up with him. I waited for 45 min for him and he never showed, including calling his cell phone which we had said I would do.

I got really upset becasue I had been stood up so much and gone so much out of my way. Then I called him late that night to explain what happened and I don't know what was happening to him. I didn't get back to Seattle until 8PM and he had never called to explain why he wasn't there, and then after I called him again to tell him my side, he still hasn't returned the call.

Tell me this stuff doesn't happen to just me, I'm so torn up just waiting for my friend to respond, and it's really unlike him not to return a message to me. I know he wanted to see me too because I ran into a freind of ours and he told me, but I didn't see him at all during the place we said to meet.

But I'm having a good summer, and will be back more in the fall. best wishes -nathan

    Wow.. that really sucks.

But what I sugest, is to call a mutual friend (if there is one) and make sure nothing serious happened to your friend.

If your friend is okay, then well... i'd just brush it off, and take the loss, cause it'll probably happen again.

that is a sucky situation. but make sure you hear his side first. although its likely he is avoiding, just be sure you hear it. last thing you need is to make a fool of yourself. it happens to everyone, nothing different about you. if he doesn't call back and doesn't explain screw em'. doesnt sound like a friend to me, but thats my opinon. hope it gets solved and keep us posted if you find out.

Wow, I thought this was one of those threads where you had to do an obligatory, "Yes, it happens to everyone!" response (lol at thoughts of Viagra commercials). But NO, I don't think this is normal.

I mean, I guess if there was some huge emergency, I've stood up / been stood up without calling back that night. I guess even if you get stranded or lost and your cell battery dies.

But since you said that this friend never disses you like this, I guess you can't rule out the possibility that either there's some real emergency or maybe somehow there's a huge misunderstanding between the two of you?

My advice is unless something serious happened to him so that he was unable to call, stop calling him your friend. He should have enough respect for you to at least call you back. If you continue the friendship it will only happen again and again.

Been there, done that. The feeling is a mixture between anger for their incosideration and being totally scared something bad happened!

This has happened to me only one time before, and the next time I saw him, he told me that he didn't reply to my text message because he ran out of credit on his phone (he has a pre-pay phone service, not monthly charges). Good excuse, I think, but I'm not sure if it was a lie or not, and I guess I'll never know. I went to England 5 months ago and didn't even bother telling him I was coming.

hey guys, so he hadn't replied to my message and since it was still really bothering me I finally called him. He hadn't checked his voice messages since then, and he had forgotten about our meeting somehow. I think he got the day confused because when I said I was in town Tues he didn't seem to remember. He had also had a lot of trouble sleeping the few nights before our meeting, so I have forgiven him becuase I know it's unlike him to stand me up. Anyway thanks a lot. --

Happens to guys all the time

Women (under 30) stand up men all the time...that's why every guy
should confirm a date an hour (s) before the date as a matter of
course. If its not going to happen, don't sit home and watch HBO,
go out to a bar or any familiar club...if its no good that night,
you CAN ALWAYS COME any time.
