#1) Does formatting a drive, erase the firmware or is the firmware stored on the mobo?

#2) I'm thinking that i'll start out @ 9.2.1 before i do the OSX install,How do i check the firmware version in 9.2.1?

#3) Does the Gigabit Ethernet system capable of using the Sata-II drives e.g. 7200.10 drives from seagate..

    3.1) i know i need the Sata-II card first..

#4) Does this seem weird: I wanna upgrade the dual G4 450 Gigabit Ethernet to this card then upgrade bigger dual cpu card later..

Trying to rid of my big crt tv and not use a cable dvr :p  :D

    1. The harddrive has nothing to do with the Firmware.

    2. I personally don't think that there is any reason to install Classic. Go right for OSX.

    3. Is the network card and the sata even related?

What computer is this by the way?

Unless this post is way over my head, I think you are semi-confused with some things?

Then again I didn't sleep last night so... :/

LOL I didn't understand this post at first either. But what he means is not gigabit ethernet as a broad concept but the edition of the PowerMac G4 that got Gigabit Ethernet. People commonly refer to it as the "PMG4 Gigabit Ethernet" or somesuch...

Google for instructions on updating to OS X... I don't know if the issues affect this PM or not but there are some issues for some PMs (I think particularly the B&W) that can cause you to royally screw it up if you upgrade in the wrong pattern, in terms of which OS 9 you are on, and which firmware you have, when you try to install OS X....

As for SATA, if you can get a SATA-II PCI controller card, there's no reason why not. I'm not sure if you can make it the boot drive, though. You can probably use something like this, although I'd hope there'd be something cheaper.
