Hi everyone. I'm going through a bit of a branding crisis - and I just want anyone and everyone's opinion. The current name of my design company is:

    Bitter Lemon Studio

What is your emotional reaction to that name?

Would you want to work with that company?

What would you expect the experience to be?

Any and all opinions are welcome and valid.

    Thanks so much,
    Joe

bitter is not a good word for use in a name. It gives negative vibes....I'd try and go with something a little more positive.

Tangy Lemon (for instance if you want to stay with the lemon theme),

    Zesty
    Spunky
    Trippy
    Spicy

Not all will work, but they don't turn me off like Bitter

ah, well, for me that still says not so good :D

If you get a lemon (like a bad car, etc) a better Pinto is still a bad car....;) And for some reason this form implies its not a piece of fruit.

    Weird

    D

I agree with the others that "Bitter Lemon" brings on a negative connotation. It reminds me a car purchased that has major problem. A car that after many trips to the shop, they for some reason can't fix the problem. A lemon in and of itself is bitter.

Using your title of lem0nayde would be a unique name. It could also remind people of the saying, to take lemons and turn them into lemmonade. In your case it would be taking on a project and coming up with a solution!

The word "bitter" reflects an image of the jaegermeister label with that guy making the horrid face. I think it would only work if u had a very clever, happy graphic to make it "fun."

However, the word "lemon" is often referred to a product that is just a complete failure.

That said, I'd say go back to the drawing board & brainstorm some more. Is it the first name u came up with?

I guess I am the only one who thinks that bitter is a great word.

It does have a negative connotation, but it flows perfectly with lemon.

I think it sound great. It sounds much better than 'better lemon studio'.

Nah, I like it. There's nothing like biting into a fresh lemon and shaking your head with the pain/pleasure of it all. It is an unforgettable experience and stays with you for a lifetime. I think the logo would be the key to making it work though.

    Thanks everyone.
I've been brainstorming all day with friends, and its funny how many of the same names we came up with. Zesty Lemon Studio is currently close to the top - although I don't like the way it looks typographically/

I've been using the Bitter Lemon Studio branding for quite some time - but not advertising with it yet. Its an old inside joke for me - but someone pointed out that before I start advertising I might want to rethink the connotation it has with potential clients.

Many here seem to agree... I'll continue brainstorming. For those interested, you can see my old branding here:

    www.bitterlemonstudio.com

    Thanks again,
    Joe

I will be very anxious to hear what your brainstorming produces. "Zesty Lemon Studio" sounds like a good name. It sounds as though that the "Lemon Studio" part of the name is set in stone. Is that correct?

Zesty Lemon sounds much more upbeat and zingy. It gets my vote even over Bitter Lemon.

Lemon -- A Bitter Fruit. == Bitter Bitter Fruit.

    Zesty sounds cool.

    Go for it. :)

    What about the obvious:

    Salty Lemon Studio

Brings images of the workplace to mind...

Some people do their best work while drunk. Dimebag Darrel "wrote" (plaed while taping at home) the solo from Cemetary Gates while plastered.

Hmm. Instead of sticking to a food, how about a nonsensical wording...

    Jumping Lemon Studio
    Stretched Lemon Studio
Twisted Lemon Studio (Logo: seriously deranged LemonHead)
    Sparkly Lemon Studio
    Inverted Lemon Studio
    Skinny Lemon Studio
Tatooed Lemon Studio (think of the logo!)
    Ballistic Lemon Studio

BTW- Nonsensicals do tend to stick in the mind as well (marketing, marketing :D )

You could simplify it: The Lemon Studio. Domain thelemonstudio.com seems to be available.
