Sorry if this is a really stupid question but can you use Gmail with Mail? If so what option do you choose? POP, IMAP or Exchange?

    Wow I feel like such a n00b:eek:

One reason I've got several GMail accounts is so that the mails from them WON'T come flooding into my regular inbox.... I use GMail primarily for various Yahoogroups email lists, and since I'm on several, this really works out well. I've got all the mail, it is nicely threaded, and yet if I'm busy at a given time and don't want to read all those emails I don't have them collecting in my computer and my Entourage folders. This proved to be very valuable this summer when I was away from my own computer for several months; the only mail I absolutely had to deal with in my webmail was personal email and that worked out well, since I was short on time. When time did permit then I could check out my GMail accounts and attempt to catch up on my various Yahoogroups lists. That worked nicely.

GMail is a great service -- been using it since the beginning -- and I think it's got Hotmail and Yahoo beat by a mile!

You'll need to log onto gmail first and then set it up through there to use mail. I'm pretty sure you go to preferences to do this. Then there are some great step by step directions for using gmail in mail (or any other popular mail program).

By the way, if you want to use your G-Mail with both Mail.app and with the G-Mail web client, you may have to create an account rule like this:

If (all) of the following conditions are met:
    (From) (Contains) (Your Name)
    and
    (Account) is (Your gmail account)

    Preform the following actions:
(Move Message) to (Your gmail account -> Sent)

or else when you email people using the gmail client you'll get your sent items in your mail.app Inbox.

    Just a suggestion.
