Anybody know a good freeware one? I was using Bluebeard but it's been crashing for me recently. Everything else out there seems to be pretty expensive. Any ideas?

Although support for it has been discontinued, Thoth is still very good and will deal with a lot of general newsgroup chores.

Also for general utilities etc. check out version tracker, and just search.

I use Unison. I've tried Thoth but didn't like the interface. Keep in mind that Unison cannot post binaries.

No, it is not free ($49), but if you are serious about Newsgroups, you will not do better than Hogwasher. I have used about all the newsreaders available for the Mac and found them all lacking in one area or another, but not Hogwasher. It is quick, accurate, and it downloads only what you tell it to, unlike many newsreaders that try to download all of a group of files if the subject of a posting is typed a certain way. It is worth every dollar if you download lots of files from Usenet. You can try it free for 60 days. After you use it, you won't want to use other readers I bet.

I realize you want a free reader, but in this case you get what you pay for.

I must vote for thunderbird, not the best looking, but the price is right and it definitly gets the job done. It may lack some of the advanced features - but it's done everything I've needed thus far.
Another one I just found, but haven't tested is MT NewsWatcher also free.
Check out tucows they have a nice list.

MT-Newswatcher is actually quite good, and free. It's an old stalwart in the Mac community. I've been using it for years.

And Osiris is a decent, free auto-poster for MT-Newswatcher.

    I am still looking.. :D

Tried NNTP-Grab.. But the program is not running very smooth..:(

Tried also Unison. But this program often does not find the files I need to download (via nzb import)

Just downloaded Hogwasher so lets try that one :D
