Googlewhacking is the game of trying to finding two dictionary words that, when searched in Google without quote marks, produce a single hit. You can exclude dictionary sites (web pages with lists of words) and sites that mention Googlewhacking (to avoid pages that later reference your discovery).

You can also read about Googlewhacking at http://www.googlewhack.com/. You can see some results at http://www.googlewhack.com/tally.pl.

Here's an example: Search Google for

    despotism fluidics -dictionary -googlewhack

and you should get only a single hit. (If you are too lazy to type it yourself, click here instead.)

When you try a search, you can tell that the words are in the dictionary because they are underlined in the title bar. If it also says "Results 1-1", then you've found one!

The Googlewhack above was discovered by Craig Tucker. I haven't been able to discover one myself yet, but maybe someone in MacRumors will prove better at it (or at least willing to spend more time on it) than I am.

To anyone who tries, good luck!

Sorry, neither word is considered "a dictionary word" by Google. You can tell because the words are not underlined in the line that says Searched the web for seapods twoeleven.

But that's better than I came up with, so keep trying!

You got one, jelloshotsrule! I'm impressed!

orotund paleontologist is indeed a Googlewhack. Two dictionary words, one hit. You don't even have to exclude the words "dictionary" or "googlewhack" in this case (at least not yet!).

You can go to http://www.googlewhack.com/whack.pl to submit your results and get credit for it.

    Anybody else got one yet?

    grey alihen

only 1 site, of course alihens are those evil feathered aliens that pigeons evolved from but that's just in my twisted imagination.

Link edited, sorry I thought the odd made up word might appear in a site anyway.

I found one: colloidal pneumonoconiosis. Click to search it.

Thank goodness. Now I can go back to my real life. But the rest of you can't rest until you find one.

Sorry, Google does not sanction the word "alihen". And your link didn't work; it should have been this.

I read an article in a French newspaper about googlewhacking at the beginning of the year.

They mentionned that even some of the google.com associates were google-whacking during work hours :p

Being #1 in the list of winners (the "Whack Stack") is certainly a bit of fleeting celebrity. No "fleeting celebrity" isn't a Googlewhack. But infusorial revivification is, which is why I'm (very temporarily) #1 in the Whack Stack.

    freakishly sheepherders

This page is pretty funny actually... a play by play description of a wresteling video!

" ...I take back that it was a typical Sabu/Taz match. It was kind of lackluster, and definitely not their best work. Now Sabu is just breaking tables for no reason in the ring. Man, Sabu is f****** awesome."
