I am new to the whole iMac thing and have a few questions, thanks in advance

1. Is there a way or do I need to kill nay apps running in the background, like I do on my iPhone 4?

2. Will java or whatever automatically update? Ya know like when apple released the flashback removal tool, how will I know they released it?

3. How do I add widgets like the weather widget to my desktop?

4. What exactly is ichat? Is it like IM between iMac users only?

1: Yes, there is a way. You don't need to generally (although i do) unless to free some ram or CPU. Right click on the application icon in your dock then select quit. Or, hover over to whatever app your using in the top right corner of your menubar (next to the apple icon), select, then quit.

2: No. You update it yourself. Click the apple in the menubar, select software update.

3: Assuming your in the app: hit the plus icon, manage widgets, more widgets.

4: It's a chat app.
