I got my MacBook Pro on Tuesday night! It cost me an arm and a leg (luckily I brought extras :D), it was $2000 for the base model MacBook Pro, $220 for 2GB of Patriot RAM, $130 for the extra battery and $350 for the AppleCare subtotal $2909.25 . Although it was worth it because this is FAST, it's even faster than my overclocked desktop computer I had to sell to get it. I've had no hardware problems so far and everything has been running smoothly, save for the windows partition of coarse :p. On my iBook if I was encoding multiple files then I would have to do it overnight and it still might not be done when I got up, but on my MBP I can start encoding and then do other stuff at the same time and it will still be done in an hour or two. I'm really impressed that it takes less than 5 seconds to encode a 12MB file. The 2GB of RAM is really useful, 768MB was not enough by far which is what I had in my old iBook. Even photoshop is much faster, I did the photoshop test on my iBook and got some crazy high time of 14 minutes , while on my MBP it takes less than 4 minutes. And when the UB of photoshop comes out it will improve even more, which will be really nice. I don't seem to have the heat problems on the MBP either, the normal temp seems to be around 115F or 46C, which is just a bit more than my iBook was. Although what is weird is that when playing an AVI file in the UB of VLC I get around the same Processor usage as my iBook. MagSafe is also really useful, you wouldn't believe the state that my iBook power adapter was in , I tripped over it at least 6 times and by the end I had to get out the pliers and bend it back into shape. Also I really like the aluminum casing, after this I could never go back to the plastic casing that my iBook had. Now all I have to do is find a way to change my username :p.

    Well, COngratulations!!!:)

I hope I'll get mine next week, I can't wait.

Just curious, do you know from which week is your MBP, I have read that the date is in your Product Number or something alike.

Enjoy your MBP... as I shall do

Beautiful machines. There is very little design changes I could think of that would make it better.

    Congratulations!
I ordered the same machine. It's supposed to arrive on Wednesday. Fingers crossed here!
I don't have the extra RAM though as I didn't want to order from apple. Still trying to decide on a good UK supplier.
Cheers to your new toy. ;)

Just had mine picked up by TNT to take back to Apple and am gutted (had a fault with the trackpad so declared it DOA). The good thing is that because it was going back I treated the weekend as a kind of really good test drive. Played around with a few apps etc, installed a load of stuff all before wiping it and reinstalling OSX. I got to try a few things I probably wouldnt have if I was keeping it as wasnt worried if I screwed it all up. All in all though the one thing that really made itself evident is what a wonderful piece of machinery it really is and how fantastic OSX is (my first mac since OS9). Cant wait to order the replacement on Wednesday so that hopefully I get my new one by the weekend.

Enjoy the machine, I am back on my windows laptop for a few more days again and already miss the MBP.

Mine is a week 36, so it was made in september if I'm not mistaken. To find the serial number you go to about this mac then click on 10.4.x two times and the serial number will show up, then it will be something like W8636xxxxxx, the week is the two numbers after 86.
Also, a suggestion to everyone getting an intel mac, you should never settle for 512MB or RAM because it will be much slower than if you just spend the $200 to make it 2GB. Learned that after playing with the intel iMac for a while.
A weird thing is that when I'm typing the keyboard sometimes doesn't register when I hit a key. Must be I'm not pressing down enough or something though.

Got my 15'' MBP Saturday. Only one complaint, wish I had gotten it sooner.

Why? The only reason I didn't get it sooner is because I have no job and I had to save for a long time to get the money. Buy the MBP now and you won't have to be at the mercy of Apple. You know that they may not release another notebook until Santa Rosa comes out near march and then you'll start hearing about the next processor upgrade and so on and so forth. Just buy now and be happy :D.

    Awesome.

I've decided to make the switch (sort of, had an iBook G4 for a while a few years ago) and consolidate my current setup with a 15.4" MBP, complimented with a 24" 2407WFP from Dell, currently on special offer.

I have the opportunity to hitch a ride to the Bluewater shopping complex in Kent later this month, not sure if I'll make the purchase at the Apple store there or online. I suppose it depends on what config I choose, whether they offer the HE discount in store and availability of stock.

Either way I'll probably go just for the experience and the chance to look over the MBP in more detail, get to grips with the Mighty Mouse (pun intended) and perhaps even checkout the glossy MB screen, just to be absolutely sure it's not something I want to consider on the MBP... assuming I can resist the temptation to purchase it there and then.

No matter what, I'm positive I'll be more than ecstatic with my purchases.

For the glossy vs. matte, the Apple store employee asked me if I wanted glossy or matte and matte just came out without any thought. I have no regrets about that decision because I can go outside and I can see my laptop screen just fine, although when I had my iBook I had to angle it back, look at an angle and squint to see it. It's plenty bright for me.

Congrats on joining the MBP family:p I chose the glossy screen over the matte screen I've had both but I prefer the glossy. Just a matter of personal choice I think.

Got my MacBook Pro last night. Beautiful machine, but it's got a mark within the lcd and the casing is slightly bulging at the front.
Calling apple to sort it out.
Flippin fast computer though and I will see that I am happy I made the jump to a bigger laptop. Been using 12" PB for years. My eyes are thanking me already.
