Is there a difference between the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and ATI Radeon 9600 XT (both 128MB). I'm designer and do some video editting. Is one designed more for graphics as opposed to gaming?
I'm getting a new mac and Apple will install the XT cheaper, but is it the proper card?
I know this sounds stupid but i can't get a straight answer anywhere. thanx.

I'm going to make a semi-wild guess and say that the 9600 is faster, in clock speed, memory speed etc.

The 9600XT is about twice as fast as the 9000 Pro. There is no reason to get the slower card.

    try

    http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/

check the Mac Radeon 9000 and the PC 9600 XT

While the Apple OEM version usually isn't clock at the same as the PC, you'll get an idea what changed in the chip technology.

    www.barefeats.com

will give you an idea about the graphic app benchmarks to see if it's worthwhile to spend more than $50 on a video card update.
