I am thinking I should upgrade my ATI 9600XT card in my G5 (see sig). So I want to buy a card that is not on top of the line, but it will hold me for some years and games to come. I was originally thinking about ATI X800XT, but I don't want to spend that much money.

I was thinking about nVidia 6600, but I get confused...

1)The nVidia 6600LE is sold separately or is just a Built-In option? Same question as nVidia 6600.

2)As for ATI... I have only seen ATI X800XT for sale on applestore. But I heard there are other cards in sale, such as X600XT.

3)One final question: What are the best graphic card models currently for Mac from both ATI and nVidia? Links and prices are welcome...

Can you inform me on this matter, and please, if it is possible, include prices in models you recommend me.

On an AGP Mac your best bets would be either the X800 XT or the 6800 Ultra DDL, if you are a gamer - and I'm guessing you are, since you posted this under Games - I'd go with the X800 XT. You can buy the X800 XT Mac Edition from ATI for USD$399 shipped.

If you don't want to spend the money for the X800 XT your only other option on an AGP Mac is the 9800 XT or 9600 XT (which you already have). The other cards you mention are in the PCIe Macs.

I would recommend the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro SE w/ 256MB DDR.
Its cheaper than the X800 XT and still provides plenty of power.

As others have said - the GeForce 6600GT is a PCIe card, while your Mac can only use AGP cards. The last two cards made for AGP Macs were the GeForce6800GT and the X800XT, both of which are available retail. There were also a few BTO-only cards like the Radeon 9800XT, the X850XT and the GeForce6800 Ultra; these you may find on ebay if you look around a bit (they are all faster than their retail counterparts).

Personally I would recommend the X800XT - it has better drivers than the nVidia cards, takes up less space and provides the same or better performance as the 6800GT.

I would recommend a PC version of the Radeon 9800 Pro. Off ebay or newegg.com you can get 9800pros for ~80USD, and then simply flash it to mac. If you pay the shipping costs to and from me I'll do it for you.

Sure you don't want an X800XT for 350 dollars?

I hope you are not refering to the 256mb Radeon 9800 Pro for $250. Because the 128mb version of the card is practically just as good and costs an amazing $94 on newegg.com. Of course you need to flash it, but I've done so before. (and you have the chance of getting one of the R360 (I think thats what its called) cores which is the Radeon 9800 XT core, so you can over clock the f out of it) PM me if anyone is interested.

Jared_kipe's 9800XT idea is by far the most bang for your buck. Not a bad idea at all...

...though I would still recommend the X800XT if you plan on playing Doom 3.
