Well I just put a 670 in my 3,1 MP and I can only get two monitors running simultaneously, I have two connected to the DVI ports and one connects to the display port with a DVI to display port adapter, no luck. I am going to go out tomorrow and buy an HDMI to DVI connector and see if that works. I am running 10.8.2.

Are you running stock 10.8.2 or the NVIDIA driver?

function ok in 10.6.8? ( i dont need boot screens).

that card is great. i'd do that over nvidia unless you wanna run latest games.

Dont suppose either of you could link me to a cooler, can't find any online.

Pretty sure the 3+ monitor fix is only available with the NVIDIA driver, yeah.

Yup that did it, you rock man!

I can confirm, three monitors running off an Nvidia 670 on a MP 3,1 running 10.8.2 with latest Nvidia drivers, using two DVI and one display port to DVI adapter.

Yes, but you said it was 'confirmed', I just pointed out that it was only 'confirmed' on a hackintosh, not a proper Mac.

Can you confirm it works on your proper mac? ;)

Ahhh. just seen you don't have that card.

The Matrox DualHead2Go allows dual DVI outputs from 1 DVI port and supports dual 1920 x 1200 video.

I believe it shows up to the system as 1 screen with a 3840 x 1200 resolution but for identically sized monitors, that shouldn't be a problem and they're only about £70 in the UK so I imagine they're just as inexpensive elsewhere.

I recently fitted a XFX Radeon HD 6870, HD-687A-ZDFC into my Macpro and I have never known the fans to run so quiet.

Just to confirm, the 670 is your primary display card or only card installed and it booted fine without modified firmware? Do you still see the EFI boot screens?

Curious if you are you able to load the NVIDIA CUDA driver?

Final question if I can...knowing nothing about cards and manufacturers.

Zotac any good?

Then I'm good to order!

I run a Zotac GTX 570 purchased off eBay With modified firmware to properly support Mac Pro. It's performs beautifully with the Adobe suite at 2560 x 1600 on a Dell U3011. It's quiet and got a strong recco from studio1productions

"For example, the GTX 570 video card has 480 CUDA cores, while the GTX680 has 1,536 CUDA cores. Since the GTX680 has more than 3X the number of CUDA cores over the GTX570, you might expect the GTX680 to be 3X faster than the GTX570. But, they are not. They are only few seconds difference. The reason is, the memory interface width is smaller on the GTX6XX series of video cards, even though they have more cuda cores. Where the GTX5XX series of video cards have a much wider memory interface width, which makes up for them having fewer cuda cores."

Oops, Sorry I have not tested triple monitor. I got the big 30 inch instead.

Yes the 670 is the only display card in my Mac Pro, I do not see EFI boot screens, no. I have not modified the firmware of the 670, simply installed the latest Nvidia drivers. It boots fine.

Sweet, so since 3 monitors seem to be working from a single 670/680 using the NVIDIA drivers, it looks like I might finally be getting a 680 in the near future!

You may need active adapters for 3 monitors...

I have a 5870 in a 2010 Mac Pro, and I had a rough time getting three monitors connected to the card. It turns out that you can not have more than one "passive" connection to the card. If you do, then one of the ports will not generate a signal. A DVI connection, through either the DVI plug or a mini DisplayPort->DVI adapter, counts as "passive". I had tried connecting two DVI monitors and a VGA projector and I wasn't getting a signal to the projector. It was driving me nuts. Note that the mini DisplayPort->VGA is "active". I was able to get this to work by buying two Active Mini DisplayPort->DVI adapters:

http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-006B-DisplayPort-Single-Link-Certified/dp/B004071ZXA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356210167&sr=8-1&keywords=accel+single-link+DVI+adapter

This behaviour is discussed somewhat obliquely by an Apple tech note. The tech note suggests using Apple Dual-Link adapters (at $100 a pop), but single-link is just fine if you are running at 1920 x 1200 or less and of course much easier on your wallet.

I am running two Dell 24's via Display Port and a third, smaller VGA via DVI>VGA adaptor from my Apple 5770. Works great a long as I power up the displays before booting. If I power up the Mac first, get periodic flickers on one of the Dells.
