when I set up our first gen airport base station I can remember having headaches setting it up - neither aiport base station utility or the set up assistant could find it. after lots of playing with it I got it to work and haven't had any more problems the last few years.

now - I think I've got a bandwith leacher. Probably a neighboor or something but someone is mooching my internet j

I never set up a WEP encryption because i never needed it - now with wireless everywhere I want to put a password on my network - problem though - neither airport utility or set up assistant can find my base station. Its working fine - hell I'm on the internet right now with it :p but I just can't get those utilitys to find it!

Is there another way to make my wireless network encrypted then in those apps?

Why not plug you computer into the Airport's LAN port, then that way you should be able to get to the settings using the Airport utilities

Also you can download software to see if you have an unwelcome guest on your network
