It can rip DVD to all popular video and audio formats, such as rip DVD to iPod, DVD to PSP, DVD to AVI, DVD to MPEG, DVD to DivX, DVD to 3GP, DVD to MP4, DVD to WMV, DVD to MP3, DVD to WMA. To show its strong functionality, here I select different output format for each chapter such as MP3, iPod video, PSP video, AAC, MPEG, MOV, Mobile video/audio, etc. 4. (Optional) The settings of output format are adjustable, which may be found on the right string. Ripping clip, video size, Bit Rate, Frame Rate, and Sample Rate may be all set according to special needs. 5. In 'Zoom' section, there are four options. 'Letterbox', 'medium', and 'pan scan' will rip 16:9 format to 4:3 format. The Full option does not correct the aspect ratio. If you have a 4:3 DVD, use the Full option. 6. In the 'Split' drop list box, we may select the size of the volumes that we would like to generate. 7. Click on the 'Browse' button to select the output folder or directly enter the output folder. ALL settings have been completed, clicking on the button to start ripping. >>> How to transfer iPod video to your iPod Set 'iPod 30G' or 'iPod 60G' as output format: Before ripping DVD to iPod MP4 video format, please make sure the 'Profile' is 'iPod(30G)' or 'iPod(60G). Download Handbrake freeware from http://handbrake.m0k.org/mirrors/m0k/HandBrake-0.7.0-beta3-OSX.zip 2. Insert a DVD of your choice. If DVD Player opens, quit it. Run Handbrake. Select Detected volume. 3. Click Open. Handbrake will detect all the titles on the DVD. If youre ripping a movie, just select the longest title in the list. If youre ripping a TV show or something with multiple episodes on one disc, then select the episode you want. 4. In the Destination section, set File Format to MP4 file. 5. Set Codecs to MPEG-4 Video / AAC Audio. Note: A previous version of this guide suggested using the AVC/H.264 Video codec, but that does not work because the video iPod can not play the H.264 files that Handbrake produces. I have first-hand reports that the MPEG-4 Video codec works correctly. As an added bonus, MPEG-4 encoding is much faster. 6. For File, enter the full pathname where you want to save your movie. 7. In the Video section, set Quality to Average bitrate and enter 400. This can be as high as 768, but unless you squint you probably wont see much difference. Higher bitrate = higher quality video = larger file size. 8. Optional - Under Quality, select 2-pass encoding. This takes twice as long to encode, but it improves the video quality and doesnt make the file any larger. 9. In the Audio section, for Language 1, select the audio track in your preferred language, as shown in Figure 8. Given the choice between MPEG and LPCM, choose MPEG. 10. The Sample rate is entirely up to you. Higher sample rate = higher quality audio = larger file size. The video iPod is compatible with any of the sample rates supported by Handbrake. 11. For Bitrate, you can keep the default of 128, or select a rate up to 160. Higher rate = higher audio quality = larger file size. 12. Click Picture Settings. In the Picture Settings dialog, decrease Width until either it reads 320. Handbrake will auto-adjust the height to match. For a full-screen movie, the height will end up at 240; for wide-screen movies, it will be lower. 13. Close the Picture Settings dialog and click Rip. Encoding time depends on the speed of your Mac, the length of the movie, and whether you selected 2-pass encoding. Handbrake will display a progress bar. When encoding is finished, quit Handbrake. 14. Run iTunes. Find the .mp4 file that Handbrake created and drag it into your iTunes library, or select Add to Library from the File menu and select the encoded movie.
