I'm having some peculiar problems with Mail 2.0 on my MDD G4 and iBook 1.2 12".

When I used to delete something, it would go into the trashcan, where it would be deleted upon quitting the application.

Now, there is no trashcan, and the deleted files show as greyed out in my inbox. The only way to delete them is Mailbox>Erase Deleted Messages.

I've scoured preferences, View, Edit, File...you name it.

This only happened on the two fresh installs I did on my MDD G4 and my iBook. I still have the Trashcan on my iMac at my office.

I looked in Help at Apple support...couldn't find.

Help's appreciated. It's probably a really simple thing I overlooked.

:rolleyes:

This is for the older Mail, its probably the same though.

Mail Prefs -->
Accounts -->
select your account, then edit

go to Special Mailboxes and make sure Move deleted messages to the a separate folder is checked.

Yep, all my accounts have the box checked "move deleted messages to the Trash Mailbox."

There is no trash mailbox. :rolleyes:

Tried CMD-L, too.

Yes, I feared that, as mine were all grayed out to...

Just one more suggestion: Try rebuilding all your different inboxes...

You do have backup, right...? ;)

Yep, I backed them all up when I noticed this.

May just reinstall Mail...unless someone has better ideas. :)

I found it!

I had the same problem with my trash can gone. But I found it. This is what I have done:

- Go to you home>library>Preferences> and take out the file com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop.
- Run Mail program, then quite. (That will create a new com.apple.mail.plist in Preferences)
- Put your com.apple.mail.plist from your destop back to your Preferences folder. It will ask if you want to replace the file click yes.
- Run Mail again and there it is.

I hope it will work for you.
