There were some on PRSI that thought there was no IRS Scandal. Now that there has been this mysterious loss of Lois Lerner emails....

    Has this changed your mind?

My mind wasn't made up to begin with.

But I don't see how one loses email.

I assume it would be backed up.

So this thread doesn't get waste landed - see http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/06/congressman-asks-nsa-to-provide-metadata-for-lost-irs-e-mails/

    ----------

Yeah I'd agree that the IRS is probably lying or they deliberately destroyed the emails.

I think there should be a penalty when the evidence goes missing.

    ----------

The only reason I thought that was because I had no idea what the OP was on about and hasn't seen a source talking about it yesterday.

I always thought there was something fishy going on, and the links in this thread pretty much confirm it.

The IRS runs independent of ANY administration.

But please keep up with the incessant right wing huffing/puffing.

    Has it changed my mind?

Only to the extent that it further convinces me of the utter malignity and uselessness of today's Republican Party.

It's kinda weird how the previous thread just up and mysteriously disappeared without any heads up or warning, isn't it? It was a valid topic, with more than a few good responses in it.

...it kinda makes you wonder what's going on. I mean most of the moderators here lean pretty heavily towards the left, and you've got all these demi-gods running around who have apparently donated money to some cause most of us aren't privy to. DEMi-gods...DEMocrats. IRS. Twin Towers. Grassy knolls. And they keep asking for blood. Why do they need so much blood? Do we really know who Arn is? What is Sandbox General a general of? Don't you think OllyW's avatar is a little suspicious? Like it could be a code or symbol for something?

    What's going on here? o_O

Maybe it has everything to do with Benghazi, and we're just not seeing it.

Full disclosure I asked for the other thread to be wastelanded as the OP repeatedly failed to provide a link to explain the topic (and I hadn't seen the Arstechnica article at that stage).

Given the moderators so rapidly followed through with that I think it was probably problematic.

The ARS article was posted in the thread at 2:18 (central time) and closed after 3:00 PM central time.

See? Everything is suspect. Trust no one.

On a serious note, the previous thread was starting to head down a weird road. I could understand why it was wastelanded.

Obama has failed to live up to that at all, and this is merely one example.

This is fast becoming a cliche like Bush's mission accomplished, however, it's also true that the Obama administration's interest in transparency was limited. They did create a new website and they pushed each agency to publish their FOI contacts and hire ombudsmen to handle FOI requests.

The Bush administration, on the other hand, didn't care about transparency and even sought to reclassify millions of documents, while pushing administrators to avoid the press and even use several methods of push-back.

That said, there are several agencies within the federal government that continue to be terrible with regard to FOI and information requests, the most notable being Department of Homeland Security and the Environmental Protection Agency.

During the Bush administration this was DHS and DoD.

It's also worth noting that this isn't just a federal problem, but states are also pushing hard either for large fees on public records requests, demanding that journalists are using these documents for commercial purposes, or refusing to respond to document requests.

Conservatives like to use "most transparent administration ever" as a punchline, but I remain unconvinced they care about transparency, rather it's a cudgel they'll put down the minute there's a Republican in the White House.

    ...

As for the IRS emails, if this is true, whomever is running the email servers should have their head in a basket and there should be a DOJ investigation.

Sock gnomes. They stole the emails in response to The Great Polyestering.

Obviously there are tapes somewhere with these emails on them. The gnomes have them now...

Just wondering how these missing emails are being blamed on the Republican party? From the look of things the Republican party got this one right (pun intended).

Do you not find it strange that the emails that were being looked for are gone? Do you think the IRS is telling the truth here?
