We would gladly rent shows in HD for a one time viewing (which you used to be able to do), but Apple said people would rather own than rent shows a few years ago and took away the option:(.

To this day I suspect that Apple was pressured into getting rid of the rental option.

8 TVs!?!?! Wow!

I bet the 35Mbps might do SD on them, but no HD. (just guessing)

Yeah, with 4 kids, each with their own bedroom and a TV in each (including mine), that's 5 right there. 2 more on the main floor (living room and family room) and one in the basement family room.

Yeah, I really don't think that one is much of a mystery. Too bad, though! I suspect programming will become much more a la carte in the coming years (or at least I hope so).

Wait...how did you know that was my birth year!

I found you listed in Webster's 1913 edition dictionary! (I won't tell you which word I saw your picture next to.) ;)

Don't worry, someday when I'm your age some young whipper-snapper will come along and chide me and say something like "You got TV over the Internet? How archaic!" :D

The future is hard to predict, but my guess is that they will more likely ask "What's TV?".

Perhaps; however, I'd be more interested to hear them call the Interent archaic rather than television. Imagine the possibilities. Maybe TV and information dissemination will be beamed directly into and out of our minds! Scary!

Why is it that whenever this topic comes up no one can ever just be honest and mention torrents? Look, I'm not going to provide you with a how to guide but if you know where to look you can find pretty much every show ever made, and as soon as they air.

I've reduced it to just the locals.I really am not even using that so will probably just try an antenna and if I get good reception drop cable.Apple TV+Roku seems to be all I use(mostly roku).
I'm not typical though,Have watched pretty much no network TV for years and don't follow sports. If you need sports dropping ESPN would probably be hard.

I am speaking for myself, and I honestly can say that I don't torrent and I never have and likely never will.

Dumped cable 15 years ago after trying it for 6 months. Very disappointed by the quality of the specialist programming (documentaries, cooking, gardening, science and tech, diy, cars, educational stuff, etc.): Dumbed down, padded with filler, pseudo-expert 'presenters' and too many adverts. Not worth the money.

We get by fine with OTA of all the major locals and redbox DVD rentals. iTunes purchases/rentals work for emergencies. Books work too.

We did have Netflix for several years (before redbox) and that was good. The streaming, when it came along, was very convenient, but the kids were turning into couch potatoes and streaming endless cartoons, so that got the chop. They survived.

Over the years, I can recall two really interesting people I've worked alongside. Neither owned a TV. Both were well educated, cultured, independent-thinking, articulate, considerate, witty and utterly charming folks. They were always a delight to be with. Kind-of inspiring.

Maybe because more people than you think don't do that. I'm being 100% honest when I say I've never torrented a movie or TV show. Not only do I think it's wrong, I don't think it's necessary. Between Netflix/Hulu/OTA/tv station websites/etc, I have plenty of things to keep me entertained.

Even if it was legal I probably wouldn't bother. I mean one of the main reasons we have Apple TVs in our house is so that I don't have to bother with a regular computer every time we want to watch something. I want to just turn the TV on, select what I want to watch and hit play.

Because you assume everyone does it and they don't.

I'm sure many people do, but for me it's much easier to use my process. No fuss, no dealing with torrents and all the potential trouble they bring.

My #1 reason that I cannot cancel my cable is College Football. #2 reason is NFL, granted most games are on OTA but some are not. #3 reason is Formula 1 racing, with most races now on NBCSports Channel and no streaming that I can find. I would be happy to pay for a subscription like with MLB but until that happens I will have a cable bill.

I still find myself watching way to many things on TV still. I want to cancel it but can't yet unfortunately.

I have a couple ATV's but Netflix/Hulu doesn't offer enough yet.

I haven't had a satellite or cable in nearly two years.

I've been buying all my shows in iTunes. I bought an Apple TV 2 about 1.5 years ago but haven't been able to use it yet because I don't have the correct TV to connect it to yet, maybe next tax season.

Cord cutters dying for al-a-carte? Here you go: http://tv.yahoo.com/news/4-things-john-mccains-cable-bill-mean-subscribers-145722767.html Let's see how far this gets.

My prediction: DOA... but lots of new campaign dollars from the cable/satt industry into various politician's re-election campaign funds.

But if it does make it, the perception is the 50 cents-per-channel concept: 200 channels at $100 month now. The reality will be that the top 10 or 20 most desired channels will probably be priced al-a-carte at about $8 to $25 each so that the net average bill to consumers goes from about $86/month to about $100/month. We kill off the 180 channels "we" never watch and then pay a little more for the 10 or 20 channels "we" do want. Quality of the programs we do like goes down (as referenced in the article). Some of "my" favorite shows don't make the cut because there's not enough "me's" out there that like "my" favorite shows. On the other hand, stuff "I" detest like Kardashians, etc do make the cut because they have mass popularity.

Dream fulfilled.

Haven't had cable in over 3 years. We have Netflix and OTA. The end result is we watch less TV. And when we watch TV, we watch what we want. That pretty much sums it up.

Same here, there is just sports on DirecTV that you can't stream of find..... lacrosse, wrestling... volleyball.... gymnastics.... college hockey.... women's college basketball... sport and games that don't make the big time for whatever arbitrary reason.

I ditched cable for good about 4 years ago. I'm in an LPTV zone, so I don't get the varied options of a metro area. I get 14 ATSC channels and 7 NTSC Channels. I have a nice distribution system, so every room has crystal clear tv. Pair hat with a media center, and I time shift to my heart's content. I also have amazon and Netflix, so my entertainment options are good to go.

Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and iTunes...

... are great Apps on Apple TV. I terminated my satellite pay TV service 17 months ago and don't regret it. The amount of advertising I have to suffer through is very little now (only on Hulu Plus), I can watch what I want whenever I want, I can sometimes watch away from home and only pay a premium on iTunes for the excellent shows like Breaking Bad, Suits and Game Of Thrones. I like being freed from subscriber satellite and free TV dictating what to watch and when with advertising for products I never buy.

I called Directv and had my account frozen/ suspended. You can do this for 6 months. I did this to try out being a cord cutter. My Directv bill was about $85 a month.

I watch Netflix on my Apple TV.

I watch several shows on my antenna. I need to get eye tv or some kind DVR. I am not willing to pay Tivo a monthly fee.

I have started watching video podcasts on Apple TV. Twit TV have several shows that I like. There are a few CNBC shows that have video podcasts too.

I have been buying a few shows on iTunes that come on cable networks.

I do miss ESPN and NFL Network. Do I believe they are worth $80 a month no.

Football season I believe will be easer because so many games are broadcasted over the air. If there is a game I want to watch on cable I will go to the gym and walk on the treadmill and watch it there.

I have decided to cancel my Directv service.

Use a uk iTunes account to get the nfl pass app on iPhone or iPad, and uses VPN or location spoofer to get all games plus nfl network
