I have the 2010 Macbook pro 13 with 320m 256mb card, I am running windows xp sp3 32bit. I have a friend with a macbook pro 13 2011 with a HD 3000 running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The problem I am having is that the hd3000 laptop is running all games terribly. I tried mass effect on both laptops, mass effect 1 maxed out I got (320m) an average of 22fps, they got (HD3000) about 12fps. and even when scaling down the setting it performed badly.
this seems to be the same with a lot of games, me getting 2x the frame rate, I want them to be able to enjoy games smoothly, and I know the 320m is slightly faster, but not that much. The hd3000 must be using the wrong drivers or something, or is 64bit windows bad with the HD 3000 (do I need to install a 32bitt os for them). when one of the games crashed it said "windows 8 driver stopped working", which seems odd because they are using a windows 7 drivers I thought.
I have tried install the latest drivers (both the mac versions and the hd3000), but they are still have major performance problems. I don't want them to have to play mass effect 1 at 640x480 all on low so they can get 20fps, that is just not enjoyable
SO my question is, does anyone know how to get the best performance out of the HD 3000? can anyone recommend some good drivers for it? does windows 7 need an update? Should I install 32bit on there laptop?
