I currently have a mid 2014 rMBP with the GT 750M. i am using one of the thunderbolt ports to push a dell 4k monitor at 60hz and the other thunderbolt port for the ethernet cable. i thought the HDMI port could push a 27in monitor with the resolution at 2560x1440 at 60hz but I'm only able to get 30hz.

any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

thank

From what I remember anything over 1080p over hdmi will drop to 30Hz

- Not at all. The HDMI 1.4 port in the rMBP can do 1440p at 60Hz quite easily.
And the later HDMI 2.0 revision (which isn't strictly relevant to this thread) can do 2160p at 60 Hz - which is four times the resolution of 1080p.

thanks everyone for your help. Sorry for the late response. Been out of town. More than likely its my cable thats the problem. i currently have a p2715q so i don't think its the monitor.

thanks again
