Have done a search but couldn't find anything about power leads for pb's being faulty so here goes as apple support is closed.....

I sat down tonight at my 6 month old powerbook and noticed that despite the power supply being plugged in and the power on the light on the connector wasn't working. I looked at the power status on OSX and it says i'm on battery. I checked everything, unplugged and replugged and the supply lit up, but it was short lived, it quickly went from green to orange and then basically faded out to nothing and appears to be dead.

Anyone know if this will be a power cable/supply issue or something worse and if it's a power issue will apple just send me a new supply or will I have to send back the whole pb.... thanks in advnace and apologies if you reply and I don't get back to you but I only have about 30 mins of juice left so once it's gone I'll can't get online until work tomorrow.

See if it will run without the battery installed and just the power adapter plugged in. Also try different plugs. If nothing works, then call Apple, or take it to a retail store and they will determine whats wrong. Aple may not just send you a new power adapter because they're not absolutly sure what exactly the problem is. So thats why I would just take it to an Apple Store and they can determine right there what needs to be replaced. If you don't have an Apple Store near by, then calling Apple would be the next best thing.

I would assume it is the power supply/cable. Just return it to an apple store with reciept and they should flip you a new one.

Possible that it is the charging circuitry in your PB, but narrow down the supply first..

Thanks to you both, i did try different plugs into the main power unit and it looked like it was working but after 30 seconds it went dead again. Haven't tried taking the battery out but will do tonight, am going to call apple now though as I'm nowhere near an apple store.

well another tip which is related to what u said , get a Stabilizer/regulator (500Watts would be enough for like a laptop, printer, speakers n some more accessories) i got mine for like 40$ and if anything happens to the electricity (goes off or something)u ll just have the change the small fuse in it , so u dont have to worry that something will happen to ur laptop's power supply.

    better safe than sorry
