Hey does any of you macbook air owners have their hard drives click when it is just idle? I checked the smart status and it all verified. I have the 1.6/80 version.
    Thanks

its not really a click, more like those super old hard drives that have lous processing noises, but this is just once....so kinda like a click. it doesnt happen consistently

Mine makes more than the normal click also. It's more like a couple quick successions of clunks. It reminds me of the noise my video ipod made if I was doing something intensive.... Although I only hear the noises on my air every once in a while.

    Call someone

definitely back up all files and call Applecare or take it to the store...My MBAir doesn't make any noise, none what so ever. It's better to be safe than sorry, and it's expansive so make sure you have one that works!:D

Mine doesn't make any noise that I can hear.

If I was hearing HD noise I'd do what others are recommending. Back it up and call Apple. Get it exchanged or fixed.

My hard-drive clicks when I move the laptop around, shake it lightly or flip it forward or backward, I think it is the automatic "apple technology" of "locking up and saving" the hard drive from hurting itself because it senses motion within the laptop?

isnt the clicking noise a sign that the hard drive is failing?

I also hear the clicking sound, sounds like hd ipod clicks, try searching on youtube for example. I took to genius hoping to get it replaced but he said it was normal clicking sound of hd operations. Anyways, now I don't really notice it although it hasn't changed really. The fan issues and battery issues are much better now since hard reset and 10.5.2 upgrade.

Damn you guys --- now I hear a click!

It is only when on battery, and not very often -- probably just when the drive is shutting down to save power. But it bothers me ask disk drives should not been seen and not be heard :)

its probably just the heads parking. Do you have your hard drive set to sleep when not active? Search mac mini HD clunk, you will read about mac minis that had a drive that did this all the time.
