i am having this problem everytime i dl a file to my desktop using safari, the desktop icon would be there when the dl starts but once it is completed it is not on my desktop anymore. I am still a newbie on the MAC OSX, but i know i specified for the dl to be on the desktop. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

I'd say do a Spotlight search for the file, then you can see where it ended up when you :apple: -click on the result. Might give you a clue what is going on.

    Or download Firefox :D

 if you :apple: -click in Spotlight it will open a finder window where the file is. And you don't see it there?! What kind of file is it then?
Did you check in the preferences if it is set to save to the Desktop?

If I try it here on my Macbook it works fine though. I right click an image in Safari, then you get "save to the desktop" and so it does.

I was serious about Firefox though. Much more customizable and much more of a standard on the internet, so less viewing problems of sites.

Run the Acid 2 Test http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/ on firefox and tell me again it has more of a standard on the internet ;) Safari passes and it's one of the few that do, IE doesn't (no surprises there).

I use firefox myself because it's more customizable, but I come across plenty of issues where it doesn't display websites properly. Still wouldn't use anything but that though, for the singular reason of the live bookmarks. I can't get by without them.
