Everything was totally normal, and then I left my desk for awhile to get some food and drinks. When I cam back, my display became unreadable! (The display was off during idle, but the computer was not). It's a 15" powerbook hooked up to a Cinema display.

So I unhook my external display to see if its a display problem, and connected it to another mac and it displays just fine. But the powerbook's display is still messed up. It's hard to describe, but there's vertical blotches making a hatch pattern across the entire screen, making everything unreadable.

I've tried resetting the powerbook a few times, but no success, display is still messed up. I haven't tried reinstalling the OS yet, but I don't know if that'll help. I've tried resetting the PMU and that didn't do anything either. I'm at a complete loss for the moment.

The only thing I had to visually document this was my phonecam. Although the images are crappy, it pretty much shows what the problem looks like. If anyone can help me figure this problem out, I would be forever indebted!

    Thanks in advance!

Just gave that shot, but it still shows up wacked.

From what I am noticing, the problem is not with the display, but rather something that's part of the OS. During startup, right before it goes to the MacOS load screen, the screen is crystal clear for 1 second, and then the garbly crap appears on top again. Thanks for the help though!

Yep. Right when I turn it on, the grey apple screen is already riddled with it.

There are brief lapses between screens where it is clear, but the rest of the time looks just like those pics.

WHOA! Okay, it loaded up NORMAL after a ton of reboots and seems to be working fine. However, after I left it to idle and the screen turns off, upon reactivation the problem presents itself again. Crap :|

It's sounding like a loose connection. Maybe take it to a technician to get checked out. Hopefully it's not a failing logic board. :)

That's what I am starting to think too. I managed to get it to look normal for a period of time before it went wacky again, so the loose connection theory sounds most probable. Thanks so much for taking the time to go through this with me :)
