On my Mac OS X, I checked the running processes using the activity monitor and noticed a process called mount_webdav. I googled it, but couldn't find anything related to any security threat, but it looks like some sort of remote desktop program? I never installed this on my Mac and I am wondering if I have a security problem?

I am new to Mac computers btw.

Webdav is a protocol that lets you do some interesting things over http, like mount remote folders on your desktop and such. AFAIK, it's the underlying technology used to implement .Mac's iDisk. Anyway, that process is most likely built in to the OS, and not something you should worry about.

Go into terminal and type: man mount_webdav
and you'll find out what the process does. It is your system trying to mount a remote filesystem via the webdav protocol.

It will help us all out if you make the Title of your thread descriptive - like "What is webdav and why is it running" instad of "Help needed"
