I just downloaded Windows Media Player from the Microsoft website and when I went to open it (Windows Media.sitx file) for the first time I got this:

"There is no default application specified to open the document "Windows Media.sitx file"

The MS download page even detected that I was running OSX so I know I didn't get the PV version. Any suggestions would be very appreciated as I have a video file I am trying to view. I looked at it at work and it opened and played with no problems on a PC and Windows Media Player. Thanks! :)

Download this from Versiontracker. It will uncompress the file for you.

Thanks Faint! Stuffit let me open Windows Media Player, but I still couldn't get that file to play. It is a 37 MB video clip that I played with Windows Media Player on a PC this afternoon at work. Why won't it open/play now on my iMac and what can I do to fix this?? Frustrating . . .

EDIT: The file is an "MPEG Movie"

I am glad that at least stuffit worked. lol
Well, WMP sucks. I have a fair amount of problems with it not wanting to playback some videos i find online (mainly streamed videos). Sometimes is is a matter of not having the right codec, other times i have no clue. You can search VersionTracker for "WMP" or "WMA" and you may get a few programs that will work, although i have not used any other than WMP b/c i use it seldom.

Edit: if the file is an MPEG movie then Quicktime will probably open it

    Good luck!

What started this was when I tried to play it on my iMac I got this alert:

"QuickTime cannot open the file: "123.mpg"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)"

I do appreciate your advice Faint. I just wish it would have worked!

vniow . . . THANK YOU!!! I tried Mplayerosx first and it played the mpg file in question immediately. I still don't know why QuickTime wouldn't play it, but at least I got to see it on my Mac with Mplayerosx. Many thanks again!! :D :D
