my roommate and i are installing an additional 250gig hard drive into his powermac G4 mdd, but after installation disk utility will only let him format the disk using the unix file system. the drop down menu has no other selections. he did change the system disk from cable select to master, and the additional drive to slave (both on the ata-100 channel). he has another 250gig hard drive (on his ata-66 channel) set to master which has been working fine and easily formatted to hfs upon installation. i tried doing a search and found no other topics on the subject, any advice/help?

All up in your bidness
This is a total guess but maybe you need to repartition the drive... I know Linux fdisk lets you specify partition type. Maybe your drive has some kind of Unix partition on it that OS X doesn't want to put an HFS+ filesystem on.
