Hi, i got my iMac G5 a few days ago and i need to share my internet with it

    I have the following hardware

    2x Ethernet (1 x 10/100, 1x 10/100/1000) ports (PC)
    1x Ethernet Port (10/100/1000) (iMac)
    1x 5 port switch (Netgear GS605) (10/100/1000)
    1x Motorola Surfboad modem w/ 1x ethernet port (10/100/1000)

I set it up like this....*

pc and mac connected to switch via cat 5e cables

Switch is connected to modem via cat 5e cable

    The problem.

The iMac recieves internet via automatic settings (No problems)

The pc recieves NO internet (Windows reports : "Iimited or no connectivity")

    The things iv tried doing:

Un plugging the iMac, trying to connect the pc to net (Same error); No luck
^^ This shouldnt be a problem as switches are designed to work this way

Swapped ports iMac and PC connected, No luck

    Are there any solutions?

    * Alternate setup

This requires pc to be on

Connected iMac to Pc via Cat 5e Cable

    Connected PC to Modem

    Set up Home network

Works fine, but not my ideal solution (Last resort)

Switches aren't designed for sharing internet connections. You could try directly connecting the modem to your PC, and after getting that working configuring its second port for Internet Connection Sharing - plugging your iMac into this port. To configure the PC, use windows Help.

Otherwise, you can save yourself the pain and get a router.

Edit: did just just edit your post, cause you said what I said :)

Everyone has their favorite brand...mine is Linksys. Model WRT54G - although this one is wireless.
