Actually, I think this is pretty perverse myself, but I can just see the Religious Right in the US pointing to this as a perfect example of how liberal values are undermining the sanctity of marriage.

I used to work in a tanning salon and one night, me and a co-worker had to go to some storage warehouse to pick up some bulbs. When we arrived, we could smell sex emanating from the warehouse.

We hurriedly picked up our tanning bulbs and headed out, it was dark, mind you. Inside the warehouse was a huge gay orgy.

This was in downtown Vancouver, on Davie St.

The only difference between the people that pass these laws (officals) and the rest of us is...the ones that engage in those things that have voting power is they do this at each others homes and only "visit on occasion" such clubs.
But on that note anybody go to the local sauna as of late? ;) :p

So what's the big deal about this?

Since when does the government have the right to legislate what goes on in people's bedrooms?

I think more attention needs to be paid to aspects of violence in society, not sex, there's nothing wrong with sex.

Keeping these things legal too, I think, increases the chance that they will get and stay on board with the appropriate safeguards, so that their members don't end up with STDs, etc....

It's my understanding that a huge percentage of the alternatie lifestyle community regularly gets tested (which doesn't seem to hold true for the vanilla crowd) and have safe sex supplies at every get together.

I wouldn't partake in this, but I have no problem with it. Minority rights are important.

Edit:: Of course it was in Montreal. :D

Yeah, that's actually my impression too... although people in the US seem to sometimes be saying that crested and is becoming less true.... Anyway, anything we can do to keep everyone, vanilla or not, safe.

The ruling pertains not so much to peoples bedrooms (in a residence) as it does to private clubs; where people can gather for social purposes.

Note the use of "private room...behind closed doors" in the judgement; it has long been the case where consensual sex is not outlawed, but if it is in a "public" establishment, and the door is left open for someone else to see/participate, that has been illegal. This looks still to be the case, although the occupancy limit of that private room seems to have been raised...

Sorry if this is a bit OT and I hope not innappropriate, but this reminds me of something that happened to me in college. One of my roommates and his girlfriend were always lecturing me about using condoms (which I always used anyway) since I was "promiscuous" and gay. I told them they had better be worrying about the same things even though they were straight and monogamous. Guess who came knocking on who's door asking for money for an abortion? They did. I made them pay every bit back plus interest with the understanding that they use condoms from now on and NEVER again lecture me about them. Trust me, they got an earful.

Ugh...well, you gave them good advice, and you helped them when they needed it. Which says a lot of good things about you. Everyone who is not abstinent needs to think about protection. (And everyone who is abstinent needs to get some...oh, snap! :D )

Mmmm... I would love to live in Vancouver someday. I really need to figure out how this cross-border licensing stuff works. I know that Canadians can get their doctorates here and practice there, so I must be able to also....Hmmm....

My god I can't even believe this gets debated in court! It is ridiculous! Where I live if you wonder into a gay club/pub chances are there is a 'dark room' in the back where orgys are rapant!

Is it legal in the UK? Traditionally in the US and Canada, it has not been considered legal... So this is a big step for our sisters and brothers to the North!

Is it illegal? How do we get away with gay bath houses here in Chicago? I mean they advertise and everything.

You left out whether they were monogamous or not. Did they have previous partners or were they both virgins before they met? Hard to make a statement when you don't present all the facts. I think it's a safety issue concerning the use of condoms and not about birth control. Get real.

I dunno...actually. My impression is that it's sort of like brothels. That it's not strictly legal, but it's ignored. I mean for the love of God, oral sex is still technically illegal in many states, including Michigan!

But I could be wrong about that, and it could be properly legal. Escort services also advertise but frequently provide illegal services, but the city mostly choose to look the other way... I'm really actually not sure.

Hmmm...so one ahead and one behind for Michigan. First English speaking territory in the world to outlaw capital punishment. Still technically illegal to get brain there. Hmmm... Altogether I still miss it vs Florida. :(

Umm- I did say they were monogamous, and since you ask, neither of them were virgins. And the issue is still about being careful. Conceiving a child when you aren't ready and consequently getting an abortion is quite irresponsible and can be somewhat dangerous to the health of the woman, don't you think? My issue with them was, don't lecture me about condoms when I already use them. Why didn't they use them? I should also make this correction: my roommate was bisexual and had had at least one male partner previous to their relationship.
