Why did the geek thread get moved to wasteland after we agreed to let it die out?!?!?!!??!?!?!
I think it probably was for the best. Dukestreet siad that no one would loose any on their post count. It's best to move on to other threads, be happy!
I lost every post i posted in there... Notice my newbie status.
actually wasteland counts don't count towards postcount.
All I have to say is:
Go check your post count.
I have PMed duke about this and have not recieved a reply yet, but it seems as though everyone who posted in that thread lost the number of posts they put in there.
We were tricked, not cool.
They are just posts. In 5 years will you care? In 1 year will you care? .
Just dont worry about it. It's just a thread.
I lost some posts too. But I dont really care. It was a good thread, but it was time for it to go. It will always be remembered.
I just don't see the logic in taking it away in the first place. At times there was actually discussion in there. Plus this is a comunity thread, meaning an open chat. As long as nobody was getting offended i don't see the validity in taking it away. But eh, you're right, just move on
i seem to remember an interesting ascension to 6502 at your end
I only got like 50 posts (maybe 75 ) from that thread. Poor
ubergeek and vniow though... I really could care less though,
because I know that I won't even remember this thread 3 months
but I think a healthy alternative would be putting it back in
community discussion but not allowing posts.
actually, I moved to wasteland due to too many complaints about spam.
It's a fine line. Discussion vs spam -- especially in the community section.
There are two ways to look at it... The big question is always... what's the harm? And there's a range.
If there are one-line useless posts strewn into the news discussion articles just to increase post counts... when what's the harm? Well, more and more people would end up doing it... making the news discussion useless.
If they are in their own thread? Well, less harm... since it's at least contained... but then you start encouraging more of these threads and longer threads like this.... with people posting, not because of the discussion, but to see how long a thread they can get, or how many posts they can accumlate. Again, enough of them happen, it encourages it.
For the community forum, generally, any discussion is allowed... even if it goes off-topic. What is not allowed in any forum is "spam" - posting just to post.
I got 209 from that thread. I was almost to an avatar, too...
I would like to see it closed instead of put in the wasteland, too. Some of those posts were meaningful... a very small percentage, though.
well, im sure some people were just posting to boost their post
count, but I was posting to get to know the community better.
Yes, it comes off as spam, but I felt like I was connecting to some
people on my favorite web site. The reason I don't care whether
the thread gets deleted or not is because I got that connection,
and the post count never even really mattered. I got what I
wanted from that thread, and it doesn't really matter where it is
now. It was a good thread though .
very mature attitude. i'm so proud.
my view is that they were all meaningful, but that doesn't mean
they should be added to the post count. I just wouldnt worry
about post count. That is like worrying about money, you will
never have enough. Just post in threads you want to post in,
with what you want to say (unless it is very inappropriate ),
and eventually you will have your avatar and your post count,
but you will see the futility in obsessing over them.
if i were to spam, that was the easiest thread to spam in... i'm just saying. I don't think u guys should lose all your post I mean you spent alot of time there and so long as the rules are the same for everyone I agree with them Also Its just a bunch of posts and people liek uBergeek who got 500 posts from tht thread were a bit in excess imo.
C'mon scem0, remember your clone got the "guest treatment" for spamming 7 times.
The top 10 people contributed 2100+ posts to this thread alone, not to mention all the spillover posts in other threads people made talking about it.
And the off-topic posts passed way over the family-friendly line.
i'm on arn's and my personal hero scem0's side
both of them know what there talking about. seriously..its just a thread, no big deal. and i agree with arn that it just kinda encourages useless posts and usless threads...and when most of macrumors isn't into a certain thread and it takes up the top position in the community forum then thats kinda unfair.
so that's what happened to him. Or her. I was wondering.
well, it looks like it will be staying in the wasteland. It was a good
thread that had its moments, but it is still just a thread...
one with a lot of sex in it....
its back in the community discussion, but its closed.
I think that its a good idea to close it. There was spamming on it, and it had run its course.
*yay I lost 3 post* -Good going arn, it was spam
*boo, I gained my 3 posts back* - err as I think ibooking said 'Some of those posts were meaningful... a very small percentage, though.'
I mean next time you *NEED* posts go and topic hunt and help somebody out in need in the help fourm.
Bah, Let the flames come. I don't need the 3 posts. I mean whoever got over 100 posts in the thread should have been taken. I think any real discussion was lost and long time ago in that thread.
Somehow I managed to loose 40 posts - all that trying to convince the spammers to relax......next time, no warning, no need to waste all that time.
"lose". seriously man. only one 'o'
you and backdawg seem to have a problem with that.
no warning's cool. reminds me of "in the name of the father"
um, so how many posts are needed to climb up the "scale" to become a "regular" etc. and what's with the numbers...6502 etc???
i notice i'm no longer a newbie, that's gotta be good, i think heh
