On the local cable access channel they have a "holiday log" playing during the holidays. Its what seems like live footage of a fireplace burning complete with crackling and christmas carols. Also, every so often a hand reaches in and changes the log, or stokes the fire.

Any of you seen this before?

I watched it for half an hour yesterday.

I've never seen it, but I did read about these shows a few years ago. Can't remember where or how, but I seem to remember there was another similair show about a fish tank. The psychology was, it helped people to relax - something probably borne out by the millions who watched Big Brother housemates sleep.

Not my cup of tea, though.

As exciting as that seems, I think I could only watch it for a couple minutes.... make that seconds ;).

I sat next to one of those shows once, trying to get warmed up. All I got was static cling instead.

I could probably handle looking at something like this while I'm surfing the web.

Heh, until 10:00 AM on the 25th we had *3* channels playing different versions of the log.

As far as I can tell the cable access channel is going to do it all weekend long though.

I did put the log on in the background for the present opening, because they were playing quiet christmas music with it.

I haven't actually seen this on TV, but I have heard about a "Holiday Log."

I think that I would much prefer the real thing. It brings back fond memories of my childhood. On weekends my father would burn our fireplace. It was a real brick fireplace.

The fish tank is in Melbourne (Australia) on a public access channel (31). It was used originally to fill spots that had not been taken up by community groups. It became quite popular (especially overnight when its only competition was provided by endless infomercials, and with those who use mind bending substances).

Channel 31 relies on community donations, and they run an annual fundraising. This is what happened a couple of years ago ...

    Also, from here ...

We had that on a station here. It was cool to have on in the background of dinner etc. since we don't have a fireplace, and it made it seem like it was actually cold enough outside to use one :D The first time I remember seeing something like that was in the movie The Net, anyone remember that? lol

Must be then. Both City and VI were playing it up until 10. Both are City affiliates, so I'm guessing it was a network thing.

I thought I recognized the log on your post...
