So, the new interactive iPads found in Apple's retail stores are more-or-less regular iPads and do have a regular home screen. One reader stumbled upon one sitting on the home screen and took these photos:

We've heard the iPad gets its data via network connection so any price or spec updates get pushed directly to the iPad, no other syncing required.

Sounds like there's a special gesture the store managers know that gets you to the home screen: http://www.9to5mac.com/68397/apples-new-ipad-2-displays-are-hackable-with-a-few-swipes/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+9To5Mac-MacAllDay+%289+to+5+Mac+-+Apple+Intelligence%29

I doubt it's the 5 finger pinch out gesture that Apple put into developers builds of iOS 4.X, it would seem too obvious. No doubt it will get leaked soon though.

The Enroll iPad link probably has something to do with linking the iPad to the specific store to enable the 'page a Specialist' feature.

After a little Google Advanced search-ing, I found the link that Apple uses.

    It says
    "Sorry, can not authenticate because:
You can not access this site without application authentication information"

    Hmmm... Here's the link...

Yeah but that's just the main AppleConnect login URL. AppleConnect is Apple's Single Sign-On - it's used for everything at Apple basically (concierge system, iRepair, EasyPay, Runner requests, company address book and so on…). It doesn't tell us anything.

Full disclosure - I worked in one of those places for a couple of years.

Nope, if you push down hard on the top left corner and hold it, you turn the iPad off. If the then press down again, it boots up like a regular iPad into the home screen. Not all that complicated when you think about it!

Well there's always the brute force method ;). I'm hearing there's a gesture combo from various people though.

More likely to get back to the homescreen you have to tether the iPad and use some dev tool or retail application.

We use pushing down in the top right in the store.
