Good News!

We lost internet service today and I was pleasantly surprised that homesharing still worked on my apple tv 4's. For some stupid reason the previous models required internet connectivity. Try doing that with Amazon lol.

This is good news! I've been disappointed in the past when my internet was out and I couldn't access my local Home Sharing network.

I assumed it was designed to require an internet connection because you have to enter your Apple ID and password to access Home Sharing. I'm glad to hear the Apple TV can finally connect to local content without having to use the internet any more.

My older Apple TV's worked without internet connectivity too.
No they don't. Turn off your modem and see what happens. You can airplay and all that, but try watching content from the computer app in apple tv. I've been down this road plenty of times.
