Well, it was a rather large shock, but I am one of five people nominated at my high school for homecoming king. At last the AP nerds have a chance to overthrow the tyrannical Prep rule!

Anyways, the nominees are required to make one poster that will be displayed in our cafeteria. I have been working a bit on one in photoshop, and would like some suggestions. It can be found at homepage.mac.com/jpanetta/campaign-poster.jpg. The whole "round table" thing is probably one of the worst puns I have come up with in my life, but I have been unable to think of anything else. The poster is due monday, and I plan to print it out at Copy Corner.

    Help!!!

I am torn between wanting to win and not. It all depends on whether a certain another AP student whom I asked to the dance wins queen. That would just be crazy, though...

Well, I must help my parents secure a few potted plants outside– lovely Hurricane Rita is on her way (I live in east Texas).

    Congratulations.

Poster looks pretty good. My suggestions just looking at it:

    1. It might cool to perch the crown on your noggin intead of the "P"; it might give a more comical approach to the poster.

    2. Put Homecoming King all on one line; maybe ditch the "2005".

I tried putting the crown on my head, but it just didn't look right. Maybe I'll try another crown picture.

Placing the "Homecoming King" on one line is a good idea, but I might not be able to get it to fit. I guess the font doesn't have to be so big.

I've been told on AIM that the thing in the lower-right-hand corner is "horrible." I would like to remove the atrocity if I can find something else to place there– a motto or some other clever thing. What do you think?

Oh, I just realized this could be my best chance to spread Mac propaganda! Mac or Vegetarian. Hmm.

    How about both?

AND VIOLIN! Spread that! LIKE THE PLAUGE!
(I saw the violin in the lower corner)

...I have met the male version of myself.

anywhoo, it's a pretty good poster. Because of the G3 PowerBook, I would vote for you! :D

Wait, if he's homecoming king, but the male version of KT, I think that works out to homecoming jester or potato peeler.. or something, I dunno.

I don't have a football team at my school. I don't get it.

How about "End Prep Tyranny Now!" J/K

I actually think the "Roundtable of Interests" is kinda nice, despite its corniess.

My brother was. Amazing what all the English III AP classes can do when they pool their resources...;)

Take out the computer/bike/violin ... and write something funny, people love funny signs, the picture is pretty good, background is nice and the little crown is good too. I just feels like it falls apart in that right corner. I'm telling you, have fun with it ... be funny it will make it more effective

Well, thanks to everyone for their somewhat contradictory suggestions.

I will attempt to follow them all in some way (well, I might not do the whole vegetarian theme... sorry :)). I might leave the images from the "horrible" corner where it "falls apart" somewhere on the poster, just not gathered around the silly title. I believe they do fit in with the poster requirements/suggestions that were in a letter from the student council sponsor. I'll try to come up with something funny, but that's why I'm here! ¡Ayúdame, por favor!

I've considered "What the heck?" but it's not quite what I'm looking for ;)

What ever happened to the "Free Sex" posters with the small print underneath with the small print to the real message. :D

As tempting as that sounds, I already turned mine in! Gotta share your ideas faster next time :). Actually, I'm trying to keep this "school appropriate" and that might be a little over the edge :p.

Ok, I'll post the new version to my other server (my .mac account is going down in 10 days or so– I'm not renewing).

So, no more criticisms 'cause I can't go back and change it ;). I got a new crown that looked better on my head, added a slogan of sorts, and made the "round table" thing a little more subtle. I think that, when it is subtle, people won't complain about it being so corny. Thank you all for your suggestions. I tried to incorporate them all in some way.

I printed it out yesterday at Copy Corner. I should practically work there by now with how many times I visit them :p. But this has to be the first time I was pleasantly surprised at the price. I managed to have accidentally chosen the perfect dimensions to have it fit on their laser printer and therefore cost $1.50 instead of $14. So I printed out two. And laminated them.

There is not much in the way of competing posters; everyone else just did theirs by hand. Just the fact that mine was done completely on the computer, no matter how lame it might be, gives it an advantage.

Now, what I have to worry about is the activities of the week before the dance ("Spirit Night", P[r]ep Rally). Apparently the people running this whole operation don't like it when you escort another nominee because it messes up their precious "order." So that means I either have to ask somebody else or deal with their gripes. I'll probably choose the latter. It's not a big deal whom you go with because it doesn't have to be the same person you go with to the dance. But, still, I don't have time to find someone else who would have/be willing to go. I have to turn in the form tomorrow . I'll just have to see what the girl I asked is doing. what disturbs me is she wasn't overly upset about the problem :p.

That made me laugh for some reason....it makes me imagine some high school kids running some racketeering scheme.

The new poster looks awesome! Great job.
Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Over the edge, and school appropriate? My thought was from my HS days in 75-76!

I don't think any HS would allow a "Free Sex" poster today. Un-PC.
