I suppose I don't have to ask if Bush is going to sign it.

Since when is it OK to give special rights to Christians?

Special rights for gays is certainly BAD.

    I'm done with these *******s.

    **** those ******* *****.

What I meant to say was: Hardly a surprise, I guess. These cretins would remove every constitutional protection available (except the god given right to guns...) if they had the chance.

No, a fishing redneck doesn't even know what oxygen or the atmosphere is.

Back on topic - will someone in England sponsor me? I want out of this experiment.

Hey, look! More unconstitutional legislation passed by the modern "Do Nothing" Congress for no other reason than to pander to their "I-hate-the-ACLU" base.

That's it in a nutshell. Pandering to the Fundies.

Limiting what the CIVIL LIBERTIES union can do.

There's a good chance that much of the legislation that has been passed this week will be overturned in the Supreme Court, but not before the elections.

    BTW,

Most of your gun loving rednecks do not know that in the event of civil unrest, that the president can suspend the Constitution under Martial Law.

That means they can take away your guns!

Once he does so, there is no reversing that power for at least 6 months.

    This Supreme Court??

I'd hate to rely on that. That's why I really, really hope the Dems get some control back in Congress, so they can repeal some of this crapola.

If not this SCOTUS, then another one some years down the line. Americans will not let this stand forever.

Unfortunately it will not be this president who has to apologize to a future generation of Americans.

You mean the same Supreme Court that has no clue about equal protection under the law?

This is a ****ed up bill. I get the feeling that my senators (Cornyn, Hutchison) will be supporting this. :(

Just what I was thinking. Even if it doesn't pass, it'll do it's job making the base think these people are doing something for them while they screw up everything else in their lives that actually matters. But no, all they'll see are those good, Christian soldiers trying to save them from the evil liberals who want to take their religion away or something.

Too bad most people don't care, because if it does pass, the implications are kinda scary.

I'm actually looking forward to the IRS crackdown on the tax exempt status of
organized religion where politics is involved, but it must be carried out so that no
    politically motivated group is excluded.

That includes the 700 Club and every single one of the mega churches
who fleece their congregations for profit.

It's already happening, but only seems to be the liberal ones. Again, seems like such a conspiracy, but it's all out there in the open. There aren't any liberals who are going to go out of their way to do anything about it since it would be seen as an attack on religion, so I don't expect anything. Even though they're already being criticized for attacking religion, so they should anyway.
