    just remember

That many times the Record company foots the bill for all production, marketing, videos, etc. So in some cases, this price is probably good (recouping their expenses)...but for many small artists, this isn't so great.

Is my mental math failing me, or did that only add up to 91 cents? Who gets the rest? Credit card companies? That seems like a pretty big % for them.

    Can't be right...

I work with a band, they are in the process of getting into the Apple Store as an independant.

They get 91 cents, for every song they sell.

8 cents goes between the Apple Store, and to CD Baby.

I don't know where this fellow is getting his info from, or if what CD Baby told me is false.

    Can't be right...

sorry but it can't be right
I know the story from CDbaby, but I do not believe at all
91% to the singer/band is just not possible.
otherwise all famous singer/band will just stop their contract with their record company, and become independent...
By the way you should also know that 10% is actually what famous artist can actually get.
most of the new bands/singer will normally get around 5-7%, they get famous, known, popular, but do not really get money out of it...
The rolling stones, and such bands/singer scan probably get around 15%, but this exception to the rules.
Now I think if independent label or artist can directly submit to Apple their production without going through the big labels, then Apple will get support from the music bands for sure. Apple might get it right finally where many other trials failed before...if Apple can implment a submission system for a new band / singer to be available on iTMS.
