Thanks for the thorough replies.

So any SL 10.6.4 install disc will work then? The workarounds that minifridge detailed aren't necessary as long as you run the 10.6.4 install disc that came with 2010 hardware?

I noticed that Ebay auction comes with an 80 GB hard drive, is there any reason for that, or is it just a bonus item for the auction?

If you have a Mac Pro restore disc from a 2010 Machine, then you do not need a work around.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

So, is there actually no way to install 10.6 on a bucket (2013+) Mac Pro? It is restricted to 2012 5,1 and before? Just want to make sure there really are no workarounds, as I found a brand new bucket that is cheaper (and better specs) than a new non-bucket.

There is absolutely no way to put any variant of 10.6 on a 2013 Mac Pro aside from running 10.6 Server in a virtual machine. 10.9 or later are the only options for the actual Mac OS on those.

hay just want to mention that if you have a 6 core/12 core you may have problems as the 4.1 firmware is not ok with those cpu's (i think)

Now that we've covered that Snow Leopard will work in a 2012 5,1, what about a 5,1 with an AMD 7950 video card(s)? Will Snow Leopard work with that card? If not, is there a workaround (flashing)?

Mac OS X 10.7.5 or Later for 7950.

^^^^Mountain lion is over three years old. Unless you have some real old funky software I can't understand what you would want to stock with such an old OS:oops:

El Cap has been working GREAT for me since PB 1.

I was stuck on OSX10.6 for a long time with CS3 :D it can happen.
(I'm still laying behind with CS6 and osx10.8 :p one day ill be up to date)

i know some people with audio setups that have not updated for a long long time.

still if you have a 6 or 12 core do not downgrade the firmware without swapping the CPU's or you'll have bigger problems than the GPU.

edit -
i do have a test instal of osx 10.9 & osx 10.10 that iv been playing with just not bothered to move up from 10.8 yet, now 10.11 is out maybe ill update to 10.9 or 10.10 :S

^^^^CS6 works fine with El Cap!

Lou

Yes it does and thankfully so. I'm not a pro so I refuse to pay for a subscription service type of use. I guess I'm locked into CS6 for a long time.

OFF TOPIC, SORRY:
Lou, on a side note, are you having any issues with Cappy's USB performance? I'm still in bed recovering from last weeks surgery, so I'm not up to much testing. Just got up long enough to do the OS upgrade and launch a few apps.

I know but I'm slow to move with the times :p
was playing with osx10.9 and saw no real need to move on, but i have been playing with osx10.10 and getting tempted to move on (the graphics seem to be smother, better GPU use?).

Im always slow to move on, each time i do it takes a few days to get all my apps moved over to the new os

no way am i looking at 10.11 for a long time

eidt- not just CS6, cubase and a few more that ill have to play with, it's not that I don't like CS2015 it's just that I don't need it yet for work.

kind of like the idea of osx10.10 now all the bugs are fixed.
is 10.11 that much better ?

i used to rock the beta instals of osx10.4/5/6 back in the day but since iv been working iv lost interest in the bleeding edge of beta bugs

No - I still have the PB 10.11.1 (El Cap:rolleyes:) on one disk, USB is fine, and I updated a secondary SSD to the final release of 10.11 and USB worked fine on that disk. On another side note, I was surprised to still see the Feedback Assistant in the final release.

I think the feedback assistance will stay there if you update from the PB to the final.

My concern so far is just the USB's compatibility, but not the performance.

One of the USB3.0 hub I have was not working in 10.11.0 PB. And now I can't test it with the 10.11.1 DB because that hub is now using in another machine. I wish it's fine now, so that I can re-use that hub few months later (I am now already update my main system to 10.11.1 DB2).

^^^^In the past, Feedback Assistant was used only with Beta OS releases. AFAIK and can remember, the is the first final release of OS software that retained it. My USB 3.0 Hub has worked and is working just fine (with a RocketU USB 3.0 card) with all Beta releases of El Capitan, including 10.11.1 and with the final public release.
