today, i recieved my brand new 20gb iPod, its ace, i've never held one b4 and didn't realise how small it was.
anyways, while i was out my mum shown it to my dad and he said he was disgusted by the price of it for such a small thing. (£220)
i expected this as he's 50 and stil living in the dark ages.
how can i explain to him that its worth this much money when he doesn't know anyting about technology and all that stuff?
    oh well, thankoo.

Load it up with his favorite music and let him play around with it.

Put all your CDs into a box and say that you're going to put them up in the attic to give more shelf space for things that he might think are more important.

My mother looked sceptical when I first showed her mine but now she's kinda tempted by the thought that all her music is just there, and she could play anything in the car, and through her soon to be wireless network. My mother's becoming an Apple geek.... :p

And point out that at least you're not spending your money on crack?

In all honesty, and with no offense to you, it may not be worth that much. The market will tell us the truth when Apple gets some more competition. For now, they're getting as much as they can.

Has he ever bought a diamond? Of course 5 years out a diamond is still worth something, but neverthless....

As a backpacker I'm always faced with the prospect of paying more for less. Oftentimes less is more, as they say.

They are overpriced, as are all apple products. We pay a premium to use things made by a company we love.

    yup totally agree
every bloody apple product is overpriced
sure we want good quality but that doesnt mean we pay overtime for the product. sure an extra small sum is alright but paying 70 pounds for greater quality is just stupid.

Things smaller than an iPod that cost more:

    Diamonds
    Gold coins
    Truffles

    On the more practical side:

    Cash
    Eyeglasses
    Airplane tickets

Another way to go about it:

What would you pay for a stereo system?
What would you pay for a stereo system that fits in your pocket and doesn't require CDs or tapes?

Maybe load all his CD's onto it so he can listen to his music. Wait, if he's living in the dark ages, he has LP's right? Or is it 8 tracks? :D

Anywho, if his music is on CD's load his music up for a short while so he can see how useful it is. Don't forget the part how you can move your files around with it.

edit: After you load his music up, how about selling HIS CD's, and get him an account on Itunes? Just a thought. :D

    Sell it.

You'll get exactly what it's worth.

    By definition.

Once he sees its worth, ask him for $20 to make up the difference and buy another one.

all those things cost more because they're worth more. the value of an ipod decreases over the years. but the value of cash doesnt. diamonds still remain pure whereas an ipod dies after 2yrs
