Having been in more dorms and frat houses than most of the MR membership combined, I found it boils down to this (US, anyway):
  • Off-campus housing: Depressing, substandard roach-breeding dwellings. Study and learning is possible, however unpleasant.
  • Dorms: Cesspools, Dorito bag and pizza-box collection sites. Usually smells of stiff socks and stale beer, though the men's dorms aren't as bad. Study and learning are possible, but not likely. Learned skills include not mistaking laundry machines for large square toilets.
  • Frat houses: All of the above, plus a general bouquet of vomit permeating the drywall, which is missing for the most part, obviating the need for actual doors. Study is actively avoided, and punishable by midnight "behavior correction," which is generally homoerotic in nature. Learned skills include saying "thank you sir, may I have another" in Latin.
