how do you delete previous safari searches?

I'm trying to delete all my previous searches on safari bit i am not sure how to. please could someone tell me if they know?

Just click on the magnifiying glass in the search box, which should cause a drop-down list of your recent searches to appear. The last item on the list is "clear recent searches." Select that, and they're gone.
