Trying to figure out how fast my hard drive is in terms of RPMs. When I go to the system profiler it says that its 1.5 gigabit. I'm curioius how this translates into the RPMs. I tried searching but came up with nothing. I'm a computer newbie so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. Thanks for your help.

It would help if we knew what kind of computer you own. Desktop drives usually run at 7200 RPM, notebook drives are usually either 4200 or 5400, but there are some that also run at 7200.

5400 RPM unless you upgraded to the BTO 7200.

That's easy then - Apple clearly states the HDD speed in the Tech Specs part of the MacBook Pro site.

If you didn't specifically order the 7200rpm drive your HDD will be 5400rpm.

You can get the brand and model number of your hard drive by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu, > More Info > Serial-ATA.

    Then just Google it.

take out the battery... there will be a label on your MBP that says what speed/size the harddrive is.

1.5 Gbit is just the HDD's transfer speed (The SATA cables). RPM is rotations per minute. And yeah, under the battery is this label saying what it is...:)
