I've been waiting a couple days now, thinking I should wait for the cheaper generic monoprice.com iPad to hdmi cable adaptor... But should I just break down and buy one from apple? How long until these things hit the generic stage?

Email monoprice and ask ... I would think that it will be a few months. First they have to reverse engineer the Apple adapter, then design their own, then mass produce a bunch of them.

Anyone remember how long it took them to start making mini-DP adapters?

The hdmi adaptor is horrible with the ipad 2. Because of the curved back of the docking port, if you are holding your ipad it will fall out or lose connection. The only way for it to be truly functional is to have it in a stationary position..
