We have been getting alot of spam at the office lately, around 100/150 a day. Is it just me, or are the spamers trying harder these days? How many offers to refinance my home must they send me before they realize that I dont want to. Why do they insist that I need their weight control medication, I weigh 150 pounds for gods sake, why do in need to loose 30?

    THE SPAMMERS MUST DIE.

I feel you pain. I use a wireless e-mail pager so that my clients can e-mail me problems directly. Then I can answer them without using the phone and interrupting my current call. When I get spam it costs me time and money. My solution has been to have multiple e-mail addresses for me.

My most protected address is the one I just give to clients.

My second most protected is the one that I give to websites that require to have an e-mail from me. (i.e. apple.com shopping stuff like that) (Does forward to my wireless at the moment.)

The last one is the address that I know will get on spam lists. That address is given out when I don't ever want to talk to the company that I am giving it out to, and I think it will be spammed. This address also doesn't forward to my wireless and I don't ever check it.

This way I can change my level 2 password easily if companies start spamming me. I recieve 1 spam message a month right now. I will kill the level 2 address when that reaches a few a week. If my main address ever becomes comprimised I will just change it. It is far better for me to change that address than get spam. I have had it for a year and a half so I figure that it is a good run. :)

I know that it is sad that I have to go to these lengths to keep spam out of my inbox, but before I did this I was recieving 20 or so messages a day and I stopped checking my Blackberry (e-mail pager) And then I got clients getting pissed at me for not coming when they e-mailed. IMHO, if you are recieving that much mail then you really should change your e-mail address.

I get ~100 E.Mails per day! Just like RandomDeadHead, I get credit Card offers, mortgage refinance, weight loss offers, dating forums, & free stuff. It doesn't bother me all that much for some reason! I have Earthlink.

My wife has a .mac account and uses her Mac OS X Mail application. She is very pleased how well the junk mail checker works. After training she only is receiving for the most part mail of interest! :)

I'm pretty close to zero a day. One of my accounts get some mail because the email address is 'close'. But, I enjoy the 'bounce' function in Mail immensely!

There is little you can do if you've had the same email address for a long period of time. 50% of my mail is junk at this point. Amazingly (at least to me) a majority of this is somewhat specific and targeted. I am at a well known medical school and get offers for "low cost human organs" (usually from China) and "embryonic tissue" (usually from Russia) and other gruesome things like that. One time a guy emailed me saying he had the cure for cancer (as if all cancers were of a singular pathology). The sheer amount of biotech related spam is astounding. Usually the IT department scans for this type of stuff and bans the domain from continous harrassment but obviously, they still fail often enough where 50% of my mail is junk.

Oddly, and if anyone here has advice, the mail.app junk filter is set to toss everything not in my address book into the junk folder, yet it does not do this.
