Once you've selected Edit, there should be an "Add field" drop down in the bottom left hand corner and you'll find Birthday in there.

Birthdays in contacts certainly would be a useful feature (and has been until now) if those birthdays would actually show in Calendar and iCal... but they don't anymore with MobileMe - hope this can be sorted with an update

Seriously?! For me in iCal on my Mac, all the birthdays assigned in contacts show up, but these aren't showing on either me.com or my iPhone. I had a look in preferences and checked 'show birthdays' - still nothing, although a birthdays calendar option does show up in the sidebar and in the calendars options on my phone. Problem is the birthdays don't show on the relevant days.

In iCal, birthdays show as a subscription in the sidebar, which I know people have been posting to say subscriptions are not supported.

How did you get yours working tkidBOSTON - if I can get this sorted, then I'm pretty much there with getting this setup working(ish)

    Cheers

    Zim

You know, I dont know if Im going crazy or not, but I just went back to my iphone to walk back through it and post instructions, but my birthdays arent there. Im going to go ahead and assume they were never there and i was just crazy this morning thinking they were, but regardless, theyre definitely not there now.
    Sorry for unintentionally lying.

Yeah, the dropdown combo box is there with a load of fields (including Birthday) but selecting any of these fields does absolutely nothing in MobileMe! Can anyone verify if they have the same issue?

The iPhone doesn't support birthday calendars for whatever reason. Dumb, I know.

I was actually talking about adding a Birthday field to a Contact record on MobileMe (not showing Birthday events in the iPhone/Touch). But have you noticed that there is an option to "Show Birthdays Calendar" in the Preferences of the Calendar on MobileMe!

However, I have just discovered this and I'm currently stuck on a Windows box at work and can't tell if this will show up the Birthday Subscriptions on my iPod Touch yet. Looking forward to trying this out when I get home.

So... Can anyone confirm if they can add a birthday field to MobileMe contact record or not? Give it a try with another field too, like Department or something.

    Cheers

The option is definitely there, birthday events are displaying on my MobileMe calendar as they should. I've also been able to add and edit birthday fields using MobileMe, which were then pushed to my iPhone and MacBook.

    Thanks ynnoj,

Hmmmm... I wonder why I am not able to add any field from that drop down then? I'm using Safari 3.1.1 for Windows (Eeewww  ).

I think I'll maybe try downloading Firefox 3 and see if the fields can be added through that. I'll report back asap.

    Cheers

    Just as I thought...

Safari 3.1.1 for Windows doesn't seem to want to add any fields to a Contact record. Firefox 3 on the other hand works perfectly lol. Thanks anyway guys for your help. Much appreciated.

Isn't it ironic that MobileMe isn't even funtioning correctly through Apple's own browser? ;)

    No problem.

I have clicked the birthday option in mobileme. Is there a way to do an automatic sync to get it pushed to the iphone as I can't seem to get it sent over to the iphone to show in my list?

If the iPhone is set up correctly, then changes to contacts and calendars should automtically be pushed from MobileMe to your iPhone.

Birthday events will not show on the iPhone calendar, however.

I wish I knew the answer to that!

If you make a change to a birthday event on MobileMe, then the changes will be pushed to iCal on your registered systems.

Its odd though bc I was able to have my birthdays calendar synced with my previous iphone running 1.X. Now on 2.0 it doesn't seem to work. I hope this is something they fix in the near future.

If you sync your calendars through iTunes i hear the birthday calendar pops up. If you sync through mobileme (available in 2.0 afterwards), it doesn't show up... I hear this applies to any subscribed calendars... Why the birthday calendar is a "subscribed" calendar and not just a regular calendar is beyond me but *shrug*
