Having recently bought one af the newly released MacBook Pro's (a real pleasure!), I would like to connect it to my Wifi-Canon 5200R printer which is still being used (by cable) from my PC. It seems as if my new MBP indeed "sees" this printer, however, I am given to understand that it is not "supported". Would be most grateful for any advice as to how I may solve this problem - to me it seems to be connected with a needed driver or? Formerly I also used the same printer from my laptop, Oeksen37+

Hey there. I have the same printer. There is a drive for mac that you can get off the CD. Were you trying to use the printer over a wireless network? It sound like you have a network which is from your MBP connected to a windows PC with the printer connected to your PC. I belive that you can set it up so you can have both the wireless network and USB printing enabled. The CD provides the setup for wireless printing. Hope that made sense!

Thanks Jimmieboy, for your kind coming back. The situation is the following:
Before getting my new MBP I had my stationary PC cabled with the said printer, while my laptop PC was connected with the same printer by WIFI - everything worked absolutely fine. Now, with the new MBP, I would like also to be able to use it for printing purposes wirelessly, when at home, through the same network....instead of the former PC laptop. I hope that I have been able to make myself clear?

I gather that I shall be using the CD following the MBP for solving this problem? Would appreciate your confirming this, thanks! Oeksen37

It sounds like you're sharing your printer through the the PC that is connected to it. You can leave it this way and you should theoretically be able to print to it wirelessly. The disadvantage with that is you cannot print when the PC is turned off. Is you use the CD you will be required to coonect this to your mac and then it will upload the network settings that are needed for the oepration of your network. Then you will be able to unplug the printer from your PC and still be able to print form it from all the computers, regardless of which ones are turned on. Hope that made sense!

Thanks again for coming back - my situation is not quite as described by you. So far I have certainly been able to use my PC laptop to operate the said printer wirelessly, a l s o when my PC was shut down! The laptop was simply setup to work with the printer in a WIFI-environment through my router, and that's what I would like to do with my new MBP. You are talking about the "CD"...do you mean the one following the MBP or the Canon printer CD? Thanks for your fine cooperation! Oeksen37+

Use the CD that came with the printer. Install the software. It seems to me that your printer is already set up for wireless networking. Installing the software will let you control the printer better. You'll be able to do duplex printing view how much ink is left, etc. Use the CD but do not connect your printer to your mac. There should be a button that skips that part in the setup. Tell me how it goes.

Jimmieboy, Even after having downloaded the most recent drivers etc from Canons webpage and installed these, I still fail to obtain wireless communication from the MBP with my Pixma IP 5200R....only when the 2 be wired, it works...Consequently I have asked the Canon Help Desk to come back with suggestions!
