Obviously something like a PlayStation or N64 emulator well drain battery, I've only personally used a gameboy one so it wasn't particularly demanding.
After you're up with the emulators as mentioned earlier. If you have a PS3 controller around, root your phone, and download Sixaxis Controller from app store. You'll have the best experience playing all those old games.
you can also get a MOGA controller. It's $50 at best buy and works really well after you set it up. Set up is a little tricky though, make sure to download MOGA unlocked from the playstore, it opens it up to work with just about any game, where as the stock app from MOGA only allows you to play MOGA approved games.
I use nesoid and snesoid. Work well, you can set a controller up to work with then "fairly" well. A wiimote connected via Bluetooth works the best for NES.
