I have an HP printer, installed the software so I can used the built-in scanner, stopped their application from starting on start-up, now! The darn thing keeps putting itself in the dock on start-up. How do I stop this?
thanks. :)

Go to System Preferences/Accounts/Start Up Items and make sure there's nothing from HP there. I hate it when apps try to take over your computer

I've done what Munkle recommended in the past... guess what? It comes back when you restart. :(

I had the same problem as well.

You need to open up the preferences in the "HP" director, and deselect Activate menu at login.
I did, but it still puts the icon (not running) down there.

Have you dragged it from the dock? (Just click and drag and it'll poof away)

If so, does it come back every time you restart?

When my computer starts the dock loads once without it, then will load close itself and load again with HP Director in the dock. HP Director is not running might I add.
